South Carolina - Sassafras Mountain - 3560 Feet - June 25, 2003

Wednesday, June 25, 2003 - We just finished hiking 35 miles in 5 days on the Foothills Trail. This trail is along the North Carolina - South Carolina border. It crosses the Whitewater, Thompson, Horsepasture, and Toxaway Rivers and many creeks. We started at Upper Whitewater Falls and ended at Laurel Valley trail access. Laurel Valley trail access is just off of 178 on the west side, about 5 miles south of the NC-SC border. We drove about a mile further south on 178 to Rocky Bottom and turned left on F. Van Clayton highway. We drove about 5 miles to the NC border, bore right and drove about another 2 miles to Sassafras Mountain.
