South Dakota - Black Elk (formerly Harney) Peak - 7242 Feet - July 3, 2006
Iowa - Hawkeye Point - 1670 Feet - July 3, 2006
Monday, July 3, 2006 - We got up early, drove west on 244 to 87, turned left, and drove to Sylvan Lake. From the southeast side of the lake we took
the three mile trail to Harney Peak. The crowds were arriving for the fireworks at Mount Rushmore. Horsethief Lake Campground would be a good place to
stay for the fireworks. It's easy walking from there to Mount Rushmore. But we drove, and drove, and drove until we reached Minnesota. At Worthington,
we took 59 and 60 south to 130th Street, where we turned left and came to the Sterler Farm and Hawkeye Point on the right. A lady came out and told us
we were at the right place and that we could park in the yard. From there, we drove, and drove, and drove to Wisconsin. We got a room at a new
Comfort Inn at De Forest, just outside of Madison.
Tuesday, July 4, 2006 - We drove home.
