MD Wills Vol. ntl9 - page 86 Probat ed 30 December 1822 In the name of God Amen, I Peter Grossnickle of Frederick County, State o f Maryland, being sick and infirm in body but of a sound and disposing mind, memory and under standing, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof and bei ng desirous to settle my worldly affairs, thereby be the better prepared to leave this world , when it shall please God to call me hence, do therefore make and publish, this my last wil l and testament in manner and form following, viz~ First and principally, I commit my soul in to the hand of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried, at the discretio n of my Executors hereinafter named, and after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses , I give, bequeath and devise as followeth, viz~ Imprimis, I give and bequeath unto my belove d wife, Christina, for and during her lifetime, one room in the middle story, the East end o f my present dwelling house, as also the end of the lower story or celler, and a much of th e kitchen garden as she may deem necessary for her use, to have, hold and occupy the same a t her discretion during her lifetime. I also give and bequeath and all the beding thereto bel onging my chest and all my linens on hand, also my table, house clock, pipe stove and all m y chairs, with as much of my house hold and kitchen furniture and utensils which she may choo se to keep or reserve for her own use; and I further order and direct, that my sons John an d Peter Grossnickle, shall annually pay and deliver, or cause to be paid and delivered unto m y wife, during her lifetime, twenty bushels of merchantable wheat, one hundred weight of goo d pork, twenty pounds of Hackled flax, Forty Dollars in current money, and a sufficiency of f ire wood, ready cut and fit for use, and delivered at her dwelling as she may stand in need o f from time to time, for and during her lifetime. My son John, his heirs, Executors or admini strators shall pay, furnish and provide annually the two thirds thereof for his part thereof , and my son, Peter, on his part shall pay and provide the one third part thereof annually a s above specified. The same to be in full of my wife’s Dower of my Estate, both real and pers onal, yet notwithstanding, it is my will and desire that in case my wife should survive my so n John, then and in such case, I order and direct that the heirs, Executors or administrators , or other legal representatives of my son John shall pay unto my wife the further sum of Eig ht hundred Dollars in addition to the aforesaid annual bequests made to my wife, to be applye d and disposed of by my wife at her discretion ~ Item. It is my will that whereas each of m y Daughters, to wit: Susanna the wife of John Custer; Elizabeth the wife of Jacob Harp; Chris tina the wife of Daniel Boyer; Hannah the wife of Peter Grossnickle and my Daughter Catherine , have each of them respectively received the sum of eight hundred Dollars current money excl usive of the stock and other house hold furniture which each of them have received. Therefor e it is my will and I order and direct that the same shall be in full of their or either of t heir respective Legacies of my estate both real or personal whatsoever~ Item. I give and bequ eath unto my Daughter Mary now the wife of Jacob Hoover the full sum of Eight hundred dollars , as and for her full share, or legacy of my Estate real and personal to be paid her by my so ns John & Peter, after my decease, but in case they or either of them, should pay her the sai d legacy prior to my decease, then her receipt or other acquitance shall be an effectual ba r against her and her heirs forever~ Item. I give and devise unto my son John and to his heir s and assigns in fee simple all and singular my dwelling plantation, known by the name of an d called “The two Sons”, containing by patent, Two hundred & ninety four acres of land, subje ct not withstanding to the bequests, gifts and devises herein before made and to be performe d and discharged by my son John as aforesaid~ Item. I give and devise unto my son Peter Gross nickle and to his heirs and assigns in fee simple, all and singular that tract or parcel of L and and premises known by the name of and called “The Six Daughters”, situated in the state a nd county aforesaid, containing by patent Two hundred and Eighteen acres of Land. The same be ing subject nevertheless to the payment and performance of the gifts and bequests herein afor e mentioned to be paid and discharged on the part of my son Peter as aforesaid~ Item. I furth er give and devise unto my son Peter and to his heirs and assigns in fee simple, all that tra ct of Land called “Rum Spring”, containing forty acres of Land more or less, lying situate i n the County and State aforesaid~ Item. I give and all the residue of my personal Estate, rem aining at my decease unappropriated, unto my two sons John and Peter and to their heirs shar e and share alike~ And Lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons John and Peter Gros snickle as Executors of this my last will and Testament, revoking and annulling all former Wi lls by me heretofore made, ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will an d Testament. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this sevent h day of April, in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and eighteen~ Signed, date d, published & declared by me - signed Peter Grossnickle (seal) Peter Grossnickle, the abov e named Testator as & for his last will and Testament, in the presence of us who at his reque st, and in his presence, and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witne sses thereto~ Signed: Ludwig Routzong Christian Harshman Henry Dalaughter Frederick County t o wit; on the 30th day of December 1822 then came John Grossnickle and Peter Grossnickle, an d solemnly, sincerely and truly affirmed and declared that the foregoing instrument of writin g is the true whole will and testament of Peter Grossnickle, late of Frederick County decease d, that hath come to their hands & possession and that they do not know of any other~ Signed : Henry Steiner, Regr. Frederick County to wit: on the 30th day of December 1822, then came L udwick Routzong, one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing last will and testament o f Peter Grossnickle late of Frederick County deceased, and made Oath on the Holy Evangely o f Almighty God, at the same time Christian Harshman, also one of the subscribing witnesses t o said will, solemnly, sincerely and truly affirmed and declared – that they did see the Test ator therein named sign and seal this will, that they heard him publish, pronounce and declar e the same to be his last will and testament, that at the time of his so doing he was to th e best of their apprehensions of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, and th at they together with Henry Dalaughter, the other subscribing witness, respectively subscribe d their names as witnesses to this will in the presence and at the request of the Testator an d all in the presence of each other~ Signed: Henry Steiner, Regr.
