Notes: BIOGRAPHY: "Her [Margaret Morrison Lowther's] father, Archibald Morrison, and his brother, wh o were of Scotch-Irish birth, emigrated from England toAmerica some time before the Revolutio n, and settled on the Yadkin river, in North Carolina. Here he married a Miss Fooks, and at t he breaking out of the war in 1775, when he enlisted as a soldier in the Continental army, h e became separated from his brother, and never heard of him again. But near the year 1788, Ar chibald Morrison removed from North Carolina to West Milford, in Harrison county, and here h e and his wife sleep. His sons were Alexander, John and William, who rest in Harrison county , where some of their descendants live; Archibald, junior, lies in Ohio; Marshall Reese, in C alifornia; Margaret Lowther, and Susan, whose married name is unknown to us, were two of th e daughters. Alexander married Miss Margaret Brake and settled on Hacker's creek in 1824. H e was a soldier ofthe war of 1812, and a curiosity in the form of a briar-root cane, which h e brought from North Carolina, and upon which he carved the head and face of a man, is stil l in the family. Alexander Morrison's son, James Monroe Morrison, was commissioned Lieutenan t-General of the U.S.Militia by President Lincoln. He married Miss Sarah Jane Bennett [Bonnet t], and they were the parents of the Rev. U.W. Morrison, of the West Virginia Protestant conf erence." [Mrs. Lowther must have skipped a generation; Archibald must have been Margaret Morr ison's grandfather, and this Alexander is her nephew; she is daughter of Alexander son of Ar chibald, and he is her brother Archibald's son. This Alexander was born c. 1793 -1850 Lewis C o. Census show him, his wife Margaret [Brake], and 3 children, James M., Jacob B., and Harrie t J. Also, Margaret Morrison's sister Sarah married Marshall Reese; he was not her brother.] "History of Ritchie County" written by Minnie Kendall Lowther, and published in 1910.
