Holiday Message 2014

Welcome All
Casses Home for the Gracefully Aging
Feb 2, 2015

There is a slight degree of irritation from the peanut gallery (my ego) when my body consistently wakes up a half hour before the alarm is scheduled to go off. Despite that little itch, I like to use the interval to float a bit in the mist of self that is perceivable before the previous day's memory stream barges in and re-assembles for the current day's stuff, chores, journeys, etc.

Also there is this weird thing I see sometimes - maybe everybody does - streams or bands of colored dots.

When I close my eyes and the background is dark, I kind of look "down the road" inside my eyelid and for a few seconds I see these flowing pools of tiny lights.

They are uniform in shape and distance between dots, it looks like the bright red ones flow from left to right and the brilliant turquoise ones (usually lower in the field) flow from the right side.

Probably some rod & cone function. Maybe similar to the bright comets or pollywogs that sometimes appear on the edges when we’re winded.

I recall as a kid the dots were much bigger and seemed to be greenish with orange "rinds" - kind of canteloupy. The turquoise ones showed up when I was a teen. It's been years since I've noticed them. I think their return may signify an accumulated improvement in dietary supplements - or my approaching demise.

A little holding pattern before I get up. I don’t spring outa bed anymore - more like a cautious rollout. My legs must sleep deeper than the rest of me. The first few steps of the day look and feel like Frankenstein’s monster learning to walk. Clump! Shiver! Clump! Shiver! Arrrgh! It takes about 4 steps to wake up my lower half enough that it walks normally.

Anyhow, something about Feb. 2, 2015 a.m. seems a little different, a bit fresher, maybe something "turned over" in the night. In retro, over the weekend I got a lot of things accomplished that I had planned (rare) and without pressuring myself (rarer). It was fun. Also played solo acoustic in church Sunday. Felt good.

The world outside didn't quite freeze during the night though it was cold and blowy. Their drinking water wasn't solid when I put out the yardbird’s breakfast. (Black Oil sunflower for the seed eaters & some dry catfood rock pounded into bits for the bug-eaters.)

About a half hour later a big bright yellow cloud-diffused sunrise happened with occasional drifting blue spots opening and closing overhead. Very active.

Later when I walked down the deck to the car for the drive to work, a cold rain of big but widely separated drops spattered my face and glasses. It was not hard enough to need an umbrella so I didn't go back and get one.

The thought came to me (I didn’t think it on purpose) what a blessing this rain is and then the cool drops felt different.

The sky was pretty dark at the time but there were shafts and pools of pure bright sunlight searching around here and there.

My regular path takes me behind the Mexican restaurant, Room Full of Nuts and the rock & jewelry place that belongs to the lady who owns the commercial plot - "The lady who sells pearls" is how she is known at Las Barriccas.

I drive by the back doors, storage, dumpsters and parked employee cars every morning I go to work. This morning I got an extra treat - Surrounded by dark clouds was a pool of sunlight right across 441 from the restaurant. Occupying (or generating?) this patch was the stump of a fresh rainbow. Yaa Hoo!

Now, the neat thing - besides being in this "blessed weather" mode already (don’t know where these good feelings come from but I sure welcome them) was - proximity!

Generally, it is pretty hard to tell precisely where any given rainbow starts or stops.

I knew exactly where this one terminated because there is a hill (with a cell tower) behind it and me in front of it. This gem was within 50 yards - wowsers! Damn near touchable.

This time I have the photos to prove it. I know just where that pot'o'gold is!!

I'll pick it up after work. (unless one of you beats me to it!)

Big Love to All!!

Crazy weather - it's blowin snow now!
