Long, long, ago, in a galaxy far away . . . Well, maybe not that far. The Gregg heritage has been traced back to around 1500. Most were born in Scotland with links to Ireland and Germany. Our modern history begins in Ohio. John Allen Gregg is born in 1849 in Ohio, the son of Carlton Enzy Gregg and Rebecca Chrisman, both born in Pennsylvania. His ancestry came from Scotland through Ireland to the U.S. Victoria Kell is born August 12, 1856, in Prairie, Ohio, the daughter of Samuel Kell from Scottish ancestry and Susan Elizabeth Neff from German ancestry. John and Victoria marry around 1872. They raise five children. Daughter Carrie Adeline Gregg is born September 3, 1874, in Ohio. Son Pearl S. Gregg is born around 1877 in Ohio. Son John Samuel Gregg is born around 1879 in Ohio. Son Carl Cressman Gregg is born May 7, 1886, in Columbus, Ohio. John and Victoria's family move to Bay City, Michigan, around 1887. Son Earl "Sonny" Gregg is born November 28, 1888, in Bay City. John and Victoria may have had a daughter Ada Gregg around 1897. This has not been verified. In 1890, John and Victoria's family lives at 410 N. Catharine Street in Bay City. Son Pearl marries Millie Barnes on December 5, 1894, in Quanicassee, Michigan. On August 6, 1895, daughter Carrie marries Fred Braman in Caro, Michigan. Son John marries Loretta Myers on May 16, 1899, in Bay City. Later, on March 31, 1902, John marries Josephine Furtoro in Midland, Michigan. Son Earl marries Myrtle Arnott on August 13, 1906, in Carrollton, Michigan. Earl later marries Johanna King on September 20, 1910, in Bay City. Around 1895, John and Victoria part ways. On August 25, 1896, Victoria marries Charles Myers in Bay City. Victoria dies from sepsis in Bay City on August 26, 1904. She is buried in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City. |
John Henry Plush is born September 11, 1847, in Clayton, New York, the son of Thomas Plush and Elizabeth Gonyeau, both born in France. John's sister Hellen is born in 1849. John is a private in the U.S. Army Infantry from February 4, 1865, until July 20, 1865. Also, he was a member of the posse that hunted down John Wilkes Booth. Hellen M. DeLong is born July 19, 1850, in Clayton, New York, the daughter of Isaac A. DeLong and Esther J. Castell, both born in New York. Hellen's sister Carrie Jane is born May 3, 1851, in Ogdensburg, New York. John and Carrie marry on March 2, 1870. They soon move to Bay City, Michigan, where John works at Watson's Mill. John and Carrie's first child, son Henry Dell Plush, is born May 18, 1872, in Michigan. Daughter Cornelia Plush is born in 1878, but dies before 1900. Two other daughters, Mary L. Plush and Edna Plush, are born but both die before 1900. In 1880, John and Carrie's family lives on Water Street in Bay City. John is a fireman. His widowed sister Hellen and her daughter Louisa now live with John's family. In 1881, John works as an engineer at the Atlantic Salt Works. Daughter Florence Ellen "Flossie" Plush is born May 31, 1886, in Essexville, Michigan. By 1889 the family has moved to the corner of Main and Smith Streets in Essexville. John is a marine engineer at S A Hall company; son Henry is a sailor. In 1897 they live on the corner of Mercer and Langstaff Streets in Essexville. John and Henry both work as engineers. By 1900 John and Carrie buy a home at 1104 Mercer Street in Essexville. Carrie's widowed sister Hellen now lives with the family. John Plush dies March 12, 1908, at age 60. He is buried in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Bay City. Carrie and son Henry continue to live at 1104 Mercer Street. Henry still works as an engineer. Carrie Plush dies at home from heart failure on November 12, 1911. She is buried with John in Pine Ridge Cemetery. |

Carl Cressman Gregg and Florence Ellen "Flossie" Plush marry on August 16, 1905, in Bay City, Michigan. Son Ivan Carl Gregg is born August 5, 1906, in Essexville, Michigan. Daughter Ivaline Gregg is born August 14, 1908, in Michigan. Before she can reach her second birthday Ivaline dies, on November 4, 1909, in Bay City. In 1910, Carl and Flossie's family lives on Ames Street in Essexville. Twin sons, Douglas Elmer Gregg and Donald Cecil Gregg, are born September 22, 1910, in Essexville. Son Harry Cressman Gregg is born December 21, 1911, in Essexville. Twins, daughter Daisy Gregg and son Dale Gregg, are born March 20, 1913. Daisy dies in less than two weeks, on March 31, 1913. Dale dies at one month old on April 27, 1913. Daughter Adele Laura Gregg is born April 24, 1914, in Essexville. Daughter Zona Irene "Toni" Gregg is born December 25, 1916, in Essexville. Daughter Norma Ruth Gregg is born April 14, 1919, in Essexville. In 1920, Carl and Flossie now own the home at 1104 Mercer Street in Essexville that Flossie's parents, John and Carrie Plush, had owned. Daughter Ruby Elaine Gregg is born in September 1921 in Essexville. By 1930, the family has bought a home at 1108 Taylor Street in Bay City. Carl Gregg dies November 27, 1936, in an automobile accident in Bay City. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bay City. Flossie Gregg dies September 22, 1948, in Bay City. She is buried in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Bay City. |
