Karin took us on a walking tour of Varenna and gave us ferry passes to explore the towns and gardens around Lake Como on our own. Our first stop was Bellagio, the pearl of Lake Como.

Bellagio was a veritable warren of intriguing passages filled with all manner of shops and restaurants. We were obviously tourists, walking around with our heads craning every which way, pointing out arches, balconies, window shutters, and various other architectural details, taking pictures of most. And there were flowers everywhere!

We crossed the lake again, over to Cadenabbia and on to Villa Carlotta where we toured beautiful grounds and extensive gardens. It almost felt like we were walking through a classic old movie.

Although there is a Hard Rock and the occasional "Micky D's" in Italy, there are a multitude of small restaurants, tiny cafes, and carryout counters that serve infinitely better looking and better tasting fare. Elizabeth found a healthy yet beautifully presented treat!
