Interested in getting together with other families who have adopted African-American children or other children of African descent, whatever beautiful color of black they may be? Come join us, whether your child is 18 days old, 18 years old, or if you are waiting for your child!

We encourage families to join us whether your children have the same ethnic background as yourself or a different one. Children who were adopted benefit from connecting to other children who were adopted, whether their adoptive parents share their ethnicity or did an interethnic adoption.

African-American Families Through Adoption meets in the greater Portland area or other areas from which members come for fun and connections with other families who have adopted children with African or African-American heritage.

We get together occasionally for potlucks and fun, and share with each other the adoption-related, cultural, and other resources that we have discovered. We help each other connect to mentors and playmates for our children, seek to help our older children themselves serve as mentors for the younger ones, and get together for other activities such as environmentally-oriented events, cultural and educational events, camping, and anything else we decide would be nice to do. We share the fun and challenges of raising our children and ourselves, and to help our families and children develop strong positive identities.
