Engine sounds healthy and provides adequate power?
All lights working properly?
All critical nuts and bolts (ESPECIALLY wheel nuts)
sufficiently tightened?
Engine contains proper amount and right type of oil?
Are your tires in good shape and have proper pressure(s)?
3. Do you have at least 3 months of experience, which
frequently
involves 40-45 MPH driving?
4. Do you appear to be stable going even 40-45 MPH (not wander
within or going outside of your lane)?
5. Can you safely and confidently make quick stops and swerves
going
40-45 MPH?
6. Do you generally feel at ease when going 40-45 MPH?
7. Are you free from having take ANY medications that may
affect
your
mind (INCLUDING "non-sedating"
antihistamines)?
8. Is your helmet approved by DOT, American National
Standards,
and/or SNELL?
9. Do you have either eyeglasses / goggles and/or a face
shield
that
allows a good field of view and does not fog
up easily?
10. Are you free from any medical and/or mental problems that may
hinder
your ability to drive safely,
particularly
at higher speeds?
EACH QUESTION ABOVE IS WORTH 10 POINTS. GIVE YOURSELF 10 POINTS FOR EACH QUESTION THAT YOU ANSWERED "YES" TO. YOU MAY GIVE YOURSELF 5 POINTS FOR A "PARTIAL YES".
If you can HONESTLY answer 'Yes" to every question above, then you are probably ready to take that Harley out on the highway!
The probability of you being able to drive to your destination and back is equal to POINTS-1. This means that the highest score you can get is 99%. If you get below 50 before subtracting the one, you should probably get rid of that Harley! The reason for subtracting one here is that even if everything is "ideal", there is STILL that chance that something could go wrong. If you get below 80 or 90 before subtracting the that one, you should seriously consider additional training / practice before trying to get out on that highway.
