Mountlake Terrace High School’s Katie Jacobson, Andrew Jacobson, and Marina Christopher mix a jazz trio set up with contemporary pop and rock music to create a refreshing and uncluttered new standard for modern jazz trios. Their first CD, Meeting New Standards, features covers by artists such as Radiohead, Sting, and even a song by Nickel Creek. All three musicians believe very adamantly in the idea that strong musicians make strong students and all agree that music is essential to life. By releasing a CD with a clear push for music in schools they are hoping to change how music classes are thought of by Administrators and Faculty. While in Mountlake Terrace’s big band these three have played with artists such as Greta Matassa, Randy Brecker, Cheryl Bentyne, and Wynton Marsalis. You can bet these three are no ordinary high school students.
