Governmental Visits with the Kalispel, 1853
In 1853 Dr. George Suckley, Washington Territory survey party, visited the Kalispel Mission.
- Reports that "it would be difficult to find a more beautiful example of successful missionary labors.”
- In spite of this glowing report, the mission would move the very next year.
- Communicates that the missionaries wanted to move the mission.
Lieutenant John Mullan, road surveyor, came in contact with the St. Ignatius missionaries.
