Westonka History Museum


Visit the Westonka History Museum at 5341 Maywood Road in Mound, MN to see the history of the Westonka Community.  We have several rooms for you to use, explore, research community history and enjoy.  


On Level 4:

The Main Room is where we have information about our local communities: Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Navarre/Orono, and Minnetonka Beach.  This room also has information about the businesses in the area, and  includes exhibits of famous local people - The Andrews Sisters, Kevin Sorbo, and Matt Ewald. It also has exhibits on the Upper Lake Minnetonka hotels of the past . This room has a Gift Shop. Click here to download a museum guide.


The east room is the Archives Room, where we have over 100 history videos available for viewing, and a place to do research on the community - people, places, businesses, churches, cities, events, organizations, transportation, hotels, etc.  


The west room is the Early History Room, which exhibits early history and Native American displays - including an interactive computer display of Lake Minnetonka Native American Mound Sites.


On Level 5:

The School Days Room contains history of the Westonka area schools - including the 25 country schools that sent their students to Mound Consolidated High School. We have copies of all yearbooks from 1923 (the first yearbook) to 1950, and several copies of yearbooks following 1950.


The Tonka Toys Room contains Tonka Toys Collections, and includes over 400 vintage Tonka Toys that were created in Mound, MN. Visit this room to learn about the history of the Tonka Toys Corporation, formerly in Mound, MN.

We are open for the public every Saturday from 10 am - 2 pm or by appointment.

We have an admission of  $3 donation per visitor to see the museum during our open hours.

Scheduled tours by appointment—$5 per visitor.


The entire museum is wheelchair accessible, including bathrooms and water fountain.


We would also love to welcome you outside of our regular business hours.  Please call (952) 472-9800 for an appointment to bring friends and family, Scout Troops, school groups, day cares, or just yourself in for a fun hour of storytelling. We have a suggested admission of $5 per visitor for scheduled tours.


We love to show off the Westonka History Museum, highlighting Tonka Toys, Lake Minnetonka, The Andrews Sisters, Kevin Sorbo, our Native  American connections, the communities of Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Navarre/Orono, and Minnetonka Beach, plus the Westonka area schools.
