Notes: William Brannon was born in Maryland in 1765. He is believed to have been a brother of Thoma s Brannon Sr. and Hedrick Brannon. He married Mary Paine. Mary was born in Fairfax County V A in 1770. According to Deweese, "... he lived at Georgetown on the Potomac River in the Dis trict of Columbia and emigrated to the then far West in about 1804, came to where Arnoldsbur g now is, stopped with Peter McCune Sr., he being a tailor by trade and an inexperienced wood sman, consequently could not wield an ax with any degree of certainty, Peter McCune Sr.,... S amaritan like, gave up his log cabin and little improvements to William Brannon Sr." The cou ple lived out their lives in what is now Calhoun County WV."
