His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph McKinney of Weston, survive, also b rothers, Theodore and Russell McKinney of Burnsville; Okey J. McKinney of Detroit; Mrs. D. O . Jenkins and Mrs. C. F. He was educated in the common schools and taught for several years, and in 1890 he began a me dical course in the Medical School of Physicians and Surgeons at Baltimore, and after 2 year s he went to the University of Kentucky for 1 year and was graduated in 1893 He formed a part nership with Dr. J. W. Kidd [Anna's brother] at Burnsville, and retired and d. at Burnsville , West Virginia, Feb. 18, 1918. He was a Christian and joined the M. P. Church and served a s delegate to the Annual Conference of the M. P. Church, and twice as representative to the G eneral Conference of the M. P. Church. He held membership in several orders, A.F.& A. M., K . of P. and I. O. O. F.

"Dr. L. L. McKinney, one of the younger members of the medical profession in Braxton County w as born August 21, 1867, in Johnstown, Harrison County, WVa. Soon after his birth his parent s removed to Braxton County settling on a farm near Rollyson. Here, young McKinney was reared , devoting his time to farm pursuits and attending the public school during the winter months . At the age of twenty our subject began teaching school, which calling he followed for fou r years. In 1891 he commenced the study of medicine under the preceptorship of Dr. John Wesle y Kidd, of Burnsville. Subsequently he attended the College of Physician and Surgeons in Balt imore, and later the Kentucky School of Medicine in Louisville, Ky. Graduating from the latte r medical institution in 1893. Dr. McKinney returned to Burnsville and began the practice o f medicine with his former preceptor. Two and one half years later he located at Cutlips on C edar Creek, this county, before returning to Burnsville which has since been his home. On Oct ober 24, 1894, Dr. McKinney married Anna Kidd, the sister of Dr. J. W. Kidd. Two children , a boy and a girl enlivened the home circle. The Doctor is a member of the board of director s of the Burnsville Academy. He enjoys a good practice, and is one of the community's enterpr ising citizens, being highly esteemed by all who know him."
