John Dennison, a son of James Lewis and Nancy (Anderson) Dennison, was born in Va about 177 2 and died in Harrison County VA (WV) in 1824. He married Sarah Norman March 4, 1794 or 179 5 (both years appear on their marriage bond in Fauquier County VA. Sarah was a daughter of Ja mes and Jemima (Shumate) Norman. The Normans lived in the Thumb Run area, near Leeds Parish i n Fauquier County. The Dennison and Norman families came to the Hackers Creek area in 1805.
John married Margaret "Peggy" McKinney on April 15, 1816 in Harrison County VA. Margare t was a daughter of George C. Sr. and Mary (James) McKinney.
John served in the War of 1812 with Captain Josiah Peck's Company of Riflemen with the Mi litia of the Virginia Requisition from Harrison County VA, which was attached to the First Re giment of Virginia, commanded by Captain George Davis of Clarksburg.
