Notes: George secured about 120 acres of land in Piscataway in March 1677/8. "The Beginnings of Thre e New Jersey Family Lines" p 25 says George was b. in England or New England & nearly a ful l grown man when his parents moved to N. Jersey. He was a tavern keeper, highway commissioner , Justice of Peace, Militia Capt., Deputy to prov. assemb. 1684-92. In 1675 George & wife wer e of New Piscataway. (p 42). "History of Piscataway Twp 1666-1976" p 44 says George Drake cho sen as Deputy of Piscataway 9 Apr 1686.
From Clifford and Martha Hardin manuscript, pg 7:Captain George Drake of Piscataway held man y county offices, was a member of the Colonial Assembly 1684-1692, and a Militia Captain. H e married 13 Nov 1677 to Mary Oliver, daughter of William and Mary Ackerly Oliver of Elizabet htown. Captain George left a will dated 8 Nov 1709 amd proven 8 Nov 1710. His wife, Mary wa s named executrix. Mary died after 1726. They had at least 14 children.His will named two ch ildren who are not found in the vital records, viz.; Jonathan and David. (ARCH., Vol.Xiii, p . 142.)Captain George Drake was born in New Hampshire and moved with his parents to Piscata way, NJ in 1666.
