Penarth was a small fishing vilage until the coal exporting boom in the mid-to late 1800's,
when it became a major port connected to the coalfields by a railway.  It has always been a
popular holiday destination, especially in the Victorian era.  At present, it is a major suburb
and dormitory town for folk who work in Cardiff, and sports a large pleasure pier.  St. Augustine's
church was rebuilt in 1866, and was designed by the great Victorian architect William
Butterfield.  There is evidence of a church on the site dating from 1242.

An image of an older version of the church hangs in the building.

The organ, built in 1895, is the work of William Hill & Son and one of the best examples of its kind in the country.

These signs are common around elderly residences in Wales.

People were pretty happy about this win in the Rugby World cup!
