An ancestry place for the Danner family.

Stories

We have an obligation as parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to pass along our family history.  In doing family history, it is one thing to develop a family tree and collect documentations such as death certificates, however, it is easier for us to relate to stories than facts.  The stories give us a better feel for an individual or family characteristics at a certain place and time.  Unfortunately, verbal stories get lost when a person passes away and I am hoping this web site will encourage folks to send me their stories in a written format which can be available for everyone and future generations.

Here is a quote from Lynne Cheney who is the wife of the vice president of U.S., "Let me recommend family stories for a last reason, and that is the sense of contingency that they foster. It's easy to see that if an ancestor hadn't moved when he did or survived against the odds when she did, life would be pretty different today. And it's a short step from there to the realization that George Washington, risk taker if ever there was one, might have been killed early in his military career, or that Joshua Chamberlain, who held the left of the Union line at Gettysburg, might never have become a soldier. The country that we know today, with all its many blessings, was not inevitable. There were countless times when things could have gone another way. We are amazingly fortunate to live in the land that we do; and, particularly in times when we are challenged, this is important for us to remember--and to tell our children."

Here are the stories I have gathered and please check back periodically to see if there are new stories.  The stories can be in a story, an outline, newsprint or in a visual format.
