Showing in Junior Showmanship

By LauraAnne Vancleeve

Junior Showmanship is for youngsters the ages of 9 to 18 to get a chance to compete for prizes and sometimes money. Junior Showmanship is divided into six classes: Novice Junior, Novice Intermediate, Novice Senior, Open Junior, Open Intermediate, and Open Senior. In Junior Showmanship, you can show any American Kennel Club recognized breed. I show a Dalmatian.

Dalmatians are extremely fun to work with as well as to show. I show a Dalmatian in Junior Showmanship and it is one of my favorite breeds! My first Junior Showmanship dog was a Dalmatian. With the flashy spots, Dalmatians are REALLY hard to miss in the Juniors Ring. I think that the temperaments of most Dalmatians for Junior Showmanship are great! Not a lot of people show Dalmatians in juniors, but that is what makes them so much fun! I absolutely love showing Dalmatians in juniors and in Breed Conformation.
