Christopher McVancy received a Virginia Militia pension for Revolutionary war service in Lewi s Co. (W)VA aged 77 in 1833.
Christopher McVany, b. 1757 PA, entered service 1777 Frederick Co. VA; after war moved to Har dy Co. (W)VA, Frederick Co. VA, Augusta Co. VA, Rockingham Co. VA, Pendleton Co. (W)VA, Bat h Co. VA, Harrison CO. (W)VA (area later Lewis Co.); received pension 1832 Lewis CO. (W)VA; d . 30 Jun 1853 Upshur Co. (W)VA; m. Oct 1796 Mary Pusse/Pusie/Pasel. Christopher's pension wa s suspended in 1836 when a witness affirmed he was a deserter.
The name is also listed in connection with this application as McVaney, McVancey, McVancy.

Mary Paul, October 1796, Augusta County, Vir ginia In the later part of 1777 Christopher McVany enlisted in Frederick County, Virginia, u nder Ensign Robert Mitchell and Lt. James Doren in a campaign against the Indians. Eventuall y the unit marched into South Carolina and near a place called Little Cove they found twent y British horsemen at a tippling shop. They killed two, captured fifteen, and three escaped . McVany's unit joined Morgan and was in the battle at Cowpens. He was granted pension on hi s application executed 7 August 1832 while residing in Lewis County, Virginia. FPA S15533; PI
