Notes: Phillip's four sons all settled in what is now West Virginia. None of their cousins did. Th eir widowed mother stayed in Maryland.

The following is based on Henry Hill, c. 1695-1773, of Frederick,Maryland, by L. P. Hill, Jr . Handwritten manuscript. "There is not much of a paper trail for Phillip Hill. His lease, w ith anextension after his death for Penelope, is recorded in Charles Carroll's account book f rom Carrollton Manor: "Phillip Hill (and Penelope) (fol 59) was charged for survey in1769. " Phillip's last lease, 1769-1774 "Penelope's lease , 1774-1779"

"I found an item in the unindexed copy of Court Records for the November term 1758 in the Mar yland Archives in Annapolis. This item stated that Phillip Hill came into the November term o f the court, stating that, "last March he got small pox and went blind. He had five small chi ldren at home and was in a very low state and he prayed that the court would help him with th e rent that was coming due to Charles Carroll, Jr." The court gave him 1,000 pounds of tobacc o to pay his rent." Monday Octr 7th 1776. It being represented by Mr Philip Hill that Thomas Selby, William Orm e and Leonard Pearce enrolled in the company formerly commanded by Captain Beall, now Captai n Braco's refuse to join their corps now at the camp near New York. This Board request Captai n Carrew Beall junr to send them under a Guard of a Serjeant & six men of his company to thi s place as speedily as possible.

Saturday June 21, 1777. Present as on yesterday.
Ordered, That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Phillip Hill one piece Brittanios, on Acc t of second Regiment.

Upon his death the lease was extended to his widow, Penelope, till 1779. She appears in 179 0 Census in Frederick Co. near Henry R., Benjamin, Robert.
