MIKE'S HARD LEMONADE/Happy Go Lucky WINS THE DETROIT SILVER CUP!!!!
Greg nailed the start in the final heat of the Unlimited Lights race in Detroit. Greg lead wire to wire after a frustrating
weekend battling the weed problem on the course. The UL-1 ran like a watch. Greg thrilled the crowd on both sides of the river
by stopping in front of the fans and getting out on the deck and waving, including the Detroit Yacht club. The UL-555 GP-50 was
second and the UL-40 DYC Presents Red Dot was third.

We are having terrible problems with the milfoil in the Detroit River. It keeps plugging up the water pick up every time
we go through the first turn. This causes the engine to overheat. Several of the boats are having problems with this. We had
a DNS in the first heat and micky moused a second water pick up off the sponson like the old round nose hydros used to run,
for the second heat. It worked kind of. Going to try some thing different for Sunday. Will have to run the B-Main to get to
the final.

Justin, Brent and crew repairing damage at Valleyfield after the final heat. Seems Vinnie and Greg swapped a little paint
coming down to the start of the final heat.
Justin and Eric are standing next to the real Gold Cup and O. J. Mulford Silver Cup at a display at The Hill Grosse
Pointe before the race at Detroit. Greg has his name on the cup from a win last year and Jerry has his name on the trophy
from a win in 2004. The only father and son to have their name on a major boat racing trophy back to back years. Finishing
repairs from the damage at Valleyfield then we take the boat to the pits.

Valleyfield is in the books. The one that got away. Greg started in lane three. He pulled out to a two roostertail lead
by the end of the first lap. Greg was catching up to slower traffic starting the last lap. The slower traffic did not move
to the outside to get out of the way as instructed by the referee. As Greg tried to fine a hole to pass the slower boats he
went through a roostertail and hit a hole and hooked the boat. The UL-72 found a lane open on the inside. The UL-1 and the
UL-71 had a drag race down the back stretch. Greg caught Michael as they went through the final turn. Greg hit a huge hole
half way through the turn and hooked the boat into the 72's roostertail killing the engine. Greg restarted the engine and
finished 2nd. Off to Detroit.

After 2 days of trouble shooting an engine miss the crew of the MHL/HGL found an electrical problem that was causing
the miss. The UL-1 with Greg driving won the first two heats entered. The UL-72 also won the two heats it entered. Paul Becker
in the UL-14 (our old boat) took a pair of seconds. All will advance to the final heat Sunday. The B main will be run at noon
and the final at 4:30 in the afternoon.

Went out twice today, engine not running right. Found the battery might have gone bad.
Looks like it messed up the MSD box. Borrowed some parts from the UL-33 Graham Trucking to help us get running. Hope to test
tomorrow morning before the first heats.
Miss Elam lost a skidfin in the second turn of the course and damaged the left sponson when it hit some rocks
near the beach.

Justin, Eric and Jerry and the rest of the crew made it to Valleyfield and put the boat in the pits today. The engine
was put in the boat and everything hooked up. The drivers meeting is tomorrow at 8 am. Testing and racing will happen on Friday.
The boat we are running is the former Alamo hull.

The Madison race is complete. The Elam Plus won and the U-7 was second with rookie Mike Allen driving. The U-7 was the
number that Jerry and Al Thoreson had when they race the Thor Racing boat 1986-1992. The race was shortend by a tragic
accident. A private car went off the road and into the crowd, injuring 11 people. Greg lost a prop blade during testing
Sunday morning and broke out the bottom of the boat, ending his weekend.

Madison Indiana. Justin, Eric and I arrived at Madison Thursday 6/29. The river was really high do to flooding
up stream on the Ohio river. The race committee asked us to display the UL-1 on the main drag on the waterfront by the pits.
Lots of fans interested in the Lights. Biggest question "Are you running here?". Lot of support for the Lights. Any racing/qualifying
was called off Saturday because of river conditions. All of the racing will be today (Sunday) Testing at 8am Eastern time.
Heats 1,2 and 3 A-B&C will start at 11am. Greg drew heats 1,2, & 3 B for the whole day. Running against the U-1
in 2B and 3B. They will be running 3 boat heat with 6 advancing to the final.

My grandson Justin will be going with me again this year on our back east swing. He will be updating his page as we travel
across the USA this summer. Right now our efforts are being put into the "old Alamo" boat to run at Valleyfield and Detroit.
When it is ready the efforts will be to repair the damage to the "new" boat from the damage suffered at Lake Sammamish.
6/16
Bob Schellhase/Hopp Racing's new boat recently purchased from Paul Droullard will not be making the swing back east to
Valleyfield and Detroit. The beautiful paint job only made it one race. Damage to the boat was severe enough from an incedent
in the first lap of the final heat that we can not repair it in time. Hopefully we can get the boat repaired for Tri-Cites
and Seattle.
6/11
The UL B-main and the final heat are complete. The first and second place from the B-main UL-13 and UL-14 advanced to
the final heat. The final heat started out with Flaherty and Hopp jumping the gun. The winner was the UL-Fabulous 40 Miss
Red Dot with Brian Perkins driving. Brian is the only driver beside Greg and Jerry that have driven the ex-Alamo boat since
it has been race by Hopp Racing. Paul Becker nabbed 2nd place. Keep'er running Paul. Off to Valleyfield July 7-9
Heat 3A and 3B have been completed at TnR earlier today. Greg and Michael drew heat 3B. Greg got lane one at the start
and Micheal was in lane two. The UL-72 had a slight lead going into the first turn. The UL-72 out punched the Mike's and finished
the race in first place, Greg in the UL-1 finished 2nd.
The results are posted below.

The UL-1 Mike's Hard Lemonade/Happy Go Lucky and UL-72 Boat Electric started the season right where they left off
at the last race of the season last year, going at it. The UL-1 won heat 1A and the UL-72 won heat 1B. The two boats went
head to head in heat 2B. After 3 exciting laps of deck to deck racing, Greg Hopp in the UL-1 pulled off the victory by one
roostertail over Mike Flaherty. Lot's of other action with the Lighter that Lights and other racing action.
