She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. While she cherished each member of her family, she had a very special bond with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each of the grandchildren would agree "There's no place like home, except for Grandma's". She was famous for her goulash, her faithful attendance at all of their plays and recitals, as well as at their sporting events, where she was one of their loudest cheerleaders. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul; children, David and Jerrie Garvin, Diane and Bill Zehnder, Donald and Jennifer Garvin; grandchildren, Ben and Ann Marie Garvin, Matt and Heather Garvin, John Zehnder, Audrey Garvin, Traci Zehnder, Quinn and Jess Garvin, Angela and E.J. Moyer, Grant Garvin; great grandchildren, Emma Grace Garvin, Carl John Goschke, Elijah Garvin, Zoey Ruthann Moyer, Logan Garvin, Roselynn Moyer, Ellie Garvin, Bentley Garvin; sister-in-law, Verna Crapo; brothers-in-law, Phil and Ann Garvin, and Joe Carlson. Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Crapo; and sister-in-law, Mary Carlson. The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, March 18, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm and Thursday, March 19, from 12 - 1 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, where a memorial service will be begin at 1 pm Thursday. Pastor Joel Fitzgerald will be officiating. Because of Ruth's love for children, memorial contributions may be made to DeVos Children's Hospital.

Nellie Vermeer, 103, took her final earthly walk to heaven on Saturday, April 1st, 2006. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Albert Gary and Kenneth Dale, and nine of her ten siblings. She is survived by one brother, Herman Veurink, and one daughter, Mary (Richard) VanAllsburg, six grandchildren, Mark (Merry) Ondersma, Bruce (Joan) Ondersma, Nancy (Bernie) Dykhouse, Becky (Dick) Lunger, Gloria White, and Dan Vermeer, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends. She lived an exemplary life of true devotion to her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a teacher to her family until the end of her life. Funeral services will be held at Zaagman Memorial Chapel on Friday at 3:30 pm with Rev. Harvey Kiekover and Rev. James Blankespoor officiating. The family will be available to greet friends and relatives one hour before services. She will be laid to rest at Rest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Nellie's wishes were to remember the Holland Home Benevolence Fund.
