Samuel Goode [Parents] was born ¹ on 30 Mar 1749. He died ¹ in 1792. Samuel married ¹ Mary Collier in 1770.

Samuel Goode settled first in Mecklenburg Co., afterwards in Prince Edward Co., whence he moved in 1789 or 1790 to Charlotte Co., and settled upon a small stream called Cub Creek, not far from the noted meeting-house called Rough Creek Church.

He was a planter, owning a few slaves, and an active man, fond of horses and of field sports, especially fox hunting. His wife was a woman of good intellect, and of a very positive, self-reliant nature. She was probably born at "Porto Hello" or in King and Queen Co.

Samuel Goode and his wife were people of sterling character, and were among the earliest in Virginia, and indeed in America, to become identified with the Methodist Church, which was established on this side of the Atlantic soon after their marriage.

Mary Collier [Parents] was born ¹ on 8 Feb 1756. She died ¹ about 1804 in Charlotte County. Mary married ¹ Samuel Goode in 1770.

Richard Hayes probably great grandson of Richard Hayes the 1st was a wealthy planter born 1710/20 who settled in Amelia Co near the court house about the middle of the century. John Hayes who was granted 604 acres in same county 1750 was possibly his brother. The family was connected by marriage with the Venables Pegrams Pryors and other families of the region Cousin Polly Venable and Cousin Betsy Pegram were spoken of by Rebekah Hayes Goode in her old age. The Hayes homestead was about thirty miles from Richmond Though its owners are forgotten in Amelia Co the family descendants remember the hospitable old plantation with its great orchards and troops of servants. The deduction here given is derived from family tradition confirmed by statements in the will of Mary Hayes recorded at Amelia Court House April 23 1789.
