Louis Yman van Dyke [Parents] was born 1 in 1928 in South Dakota, USA. He died 2 on 14 Jan 2019 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, USA. Louis married Martena Buys "Tina".

Van Dyke, Louis Louis Y. Van Dyke, age 90 entered his eternal home on January 14, 2019 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond, an infant brother, and sister Ardith. Lou was born in Corsica, SD, to Pastor Jacob and Anna Van Dyke, in 1928. He spent his childhood in Ireton, IA, where his father pastored the Christian Reformed Church. At age 16, he moved with his family to Oak Harbor, WA. He graduated from Calvin College, whereupon he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Special Agent in the Counterintelligence Corps in Germany. In December 1951, during Christmas furlough, he married the love of his life, Martena (Tina) Buys of Lynden, WA, whom he had met while home from college on winter break. Together they had five children, Steve (Vonnie Bajema), Alan (Cyndie Vander Aa), Joan (Terry Crull), Mike (Lillian Nunez), and Wayne. Lou devoted his career to Christian education, serving as a Social Studies teacher at Lynden Christian High School, principal at Shoreline Christian School in Seattle, and for 32 years as professor of History at Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. He received his Masters in Education at the University of Washington, and Doctor of the Arts of Teaching at the University of North Dakota. His hobbies included restoration of an antique Model A Ford, reading, and gardening. His professional memberships included Conference on Faith and History and American Historical Review. He devoted his life to his family as a husband and father, and to his church in Sioux Center. Besides his wife and children, Lou is survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother Duane who resides in WA. Funeral services will be held at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI on Friday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m with visitation one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 pm. Burial will be at Alaska Cemetery in Caledonia Township, MI.
