Jack Hovingh May 5, 1935 - March 7, 2013 Resident of Pleasanton My dad passed away comfortably with family by his side from complications of type 2 diabetes. Dad was born in Allendale, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with degrees in math and mechanical engineering in 1958. He moved to California and started his career at the Lawrence Livermore National Lab with his then wife Patsy. They lived on the Rowell Ranch for several years until purchasing a home in Castro Valley. He had 3 children Mary Hovingh , Mark Hovingh (deceased) and James Robert (deceased). Dad coached my Miss Softball America team and Mark's CV Little League teams. In 1973 dad earned his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California Berkeley. He continued working at the Lab for over 40 years until his retirement. He pioneered works in the design of power reactors and published several scientific papers. Dad had many friends at the Lab. Dad lived 35 years in Pleasanton and was involved in the planning commission and the general plan review for the city. Dad loved hiking the Swiss Alps, backpacking in the Arctic, his pets, his "women friends", fine food, music and reading. He is survived by brother Peter Hovingh (Margo), sister Donna Nanninga (Wayne); daughter Mary Hovingh (Mike) and grandchildren Kelly Kincaid, Jodie Kincaid and Nick Kincaid.
