William Joseph Jansen Passed away August 17, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, June 4, 1921. William, or "Jan", as he was well known by his friends, was the youngest of seven children from Dutch immigrant parents. Jan had moved from Illinois while serving in the Navy in 1945, to California with his first wife and had three children, Patricia, Jackie and Mike. Years later Jan remarried and settled in Carpinteria, CA. He and his wife Karen loved to travel and play golf. Among one of their travels they met a Scottish couple and became very good friends, where they would exchange each other homes, Jan's in Carpinteria and the other couples in Scotland, and enjoying all the golf courses. Jan had many dear friends with whom he shared books, jokes, stories and e-mails. At the age of 92, he decided to quit driving. The family would like to thank his cardiologist and very dear friend, Dr. David Gillon and Jan's neighbors, Dale and Agnes, for all of their help. Jan leaves behind, his wife Karen, his children Patricia Scholz from Kentucky, Jackie Unander (Philip) of Solvang, Mike Jansen (Patti) of Solvang. Jan also enjoyed his grandchildren, Robin Unander La Berge, Santa Barbara, Michael and Blake Jansen, Solvang, and two great grandchildren Hudson and Lilia La Berge. Jan also shared a special bond with Karen's son David Reid and wife Jody and their two children Heather and Mike of Utah. As per Jan's wishes, there are no services.
