    Dale was born on September 25, 1910 in Westervelt, the son of Charles H. and Minnie D. Salmons Donnel. He was a lifelong area resident, graduate of Westervelt High School and Sparks Business College in Shelbyville. He served as deputy treasurer for Shelby County for nine years. He was a member of the Shelby County Farm Bureau, former member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Illinois Flying Farmers. He became a member of the Westervelt Christian Church in April 1923 and in later years attended the Mount Pleasant Church of God in rural Assumption. He married Imogene Askins, of Lakewood, on May 6, 1939.
    Surviving are his wife, Imogene, of 65+ years; daughter, Marilyn Smith and husband Robert of Moweaqua; son, Kenneth Donnel and wife Amy of Findlay; brothers, Woodrow and Lester Donnel both of Westervelt; grandchildren, Michael Donnel and wife Amber of Shelbyville, Suzanne Thomas and husband John of Mattoon, Teresa Watkins of Jackson, MS, Candice Garwood and husband Mark of Iowa City, IA, Carmel Witte and husband Richard of San Diego, CA and Brandon Smith of Normal; step-grandchildren, Brandon Stephens and wife Heidi of Shelbyville, Misty Rueff and husband Josh of Cowden; five great grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Glen Donnel.

Woodrow Wilson Donnel, 105, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:33 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Thomas Suey officiating. Visitation from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to Christ Tabernacle Building Fund, Wounded Warrior Project or Shelbyville Public Library.
Mr. Donnel was born on July 13, 1912 in Shelby Co., IL, the son of Charles Henry and Minnie Drucilla (Salmons) Donnel. He graduated from Westervelt Community High School in the Class of 1930. He began farming with horses in the Westervelt area and bought his first tractor in 1936. Woodrow then entered the service and was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving in the Solomon Islands Campaign (Guadalcanal). When Woodrow returned from the service, he resumed his farming career. He married Amerilla M. Manuel on February 4, 1944. They worked tirelessly on the family grain and livestock farm and raised their six children. He enjoyed raising Black Angus Cattle and Spotted Belgian Horses. In his younger days, he played in a band with his younger brother, Lester. He was a member of Christ Tabernacle Church in Herrick, IL, Shelby County Farm Bureau, The Black Angus Association, and was a former member of the Westervelt Christian Church.
He is survived by his sons, Gary Donnel (Pam) of Shelbyville, IL, Darryl Donnel (Julie) of Cypress, TX and Troy Donnel of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Carolyn Sherwood (Sid) of Loudon, TN, Ginnie Moody of Dalton City, IL and Cathy Crane of Arlington, VA; sister-in-law, Imogene Donnel of Findlay, IL; six grandchildren, Rhonda Meismer (John), Melissa Moody, Chad Donnel (Dena), Michelle Moody, Brandi Hughes (Brandon) and Sarah Donnel; seven great grandchildren, Abby Donnel, Ashley Donnel, Dax Meismer, Haley Meismer, Sloan Plummer, Quinn Plummer, and Fallon Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amerilla; parents; and brothers, Dale, Glen and Lester Donnel.

Mrs. Donnel was born on February 20, 1925 in Ville Platte, LA, the daughter of Maurice and Loula Fontenot Manuel. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Opelousas, LA in the class of 1943. She married Woodrow Donnel on February 4, 1944, and worked tirelessly on the family grain & livestock farm. Later, after raising the family of 6 children, Amerilla worked for Carl Grabb Motors, then Mode O’Day women’s clothing & then started her own business called Amerilla’s Fashions, with stores in Shelbyville, Mattoon & Charleston and provided numerous style shows in the surrounding areas.

Patsy loved living on the farm and raising horses.

She is survived by her brothers, Charles Donnel and wife Nancy of Stonington, IL and David Donnel and wife Cathy of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Eileen Powers and husband Darrell of Findlay, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Donnel was born on June 26, 1916 in Westervelt, Illinois the son of Charles H. and Drucilla "Minnie" Salmons Donnel. He was the youngest of four brothers. Lester proudly served in the United States Air Force and shared many stories with his family having been a veteran of WW II. He was a hard worker and loved working on the family's sesquicentennial farm, where he lived his entire life. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and collecting antique dishes and railroad watches. He attended Knobs Baptist Church, Tower Hill. He married Ila Mae Shade on August 25, 1948. She died on June 2, 2003.

Surviving are his son, Louie Donnel and wife Tina of Shelbyville; daughters, Connie Scott and husband Jene of Mattoon and Dorothy Ann Dilley and husband Larry of Shelbyville; brother, Woodrow W. Donnel of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Amy, Erin, Cory, Tarrah, Lindsay, Melanie and Mitchell; and great grandchildren, Peighton, Kentrell, Kolton, Abby, Isaac and Lilian.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ila; son, William E. Anderson; brothers, Dale D. Donnel and Glen G. Donnel; and one granddaughter, Penny.

Lester was dearly loved by his children and grandchildren, who will cherish their memories of their Dad and Grandpa.
