"Thomas was paying taxes in Nantmeal and Uwchlan from 1730 to 1747. He and his family moved to North Carolina shortly after 1747 and was received by certificate at Cane Creek Meeting in 1756.

"Thomas & Elizabeth were cousins. They were the first PUGH's to come to NC, about 1750, which is when the North Carolina territory was first opened for settlement, and settled on Sandy Creek in Randolph County. Thomas was received into the Cane Creek Friends Meeting in 1756.

"Thomas was involved in the NC Regulators from 1768 - 1771. He was disowned by the Cane Creek Friends Meeting for taking part in the Battle of Alamance."

William Harris [Parents] was born 1 in 1760/1765 in Va. He died 2 in 1843/1844 in Jessamine County, Kentucky, USA. William married 3 Jane Overstreet about 1785 in Va.

William Harris moved to Fayette Co KY about 1790 and then to Jessamine Co ca 1796. He is listed in both the 1820 and 1830 KY census.

Arrived in VA from Scotland abt 1740 with father George and brother Richard. Pioneer preacher. 1770 went with Robert Overstreet and family to what is now Lexington, KY. They built a small fort as protection from Indians. William married Jane Overstreet, daughter of Robert. They remained there two or three years and battled for life against Indians. Then they moved 12 miles south of Lexington to a point known as the "pocket" formed by the circular course of the Kentucky river in Jessamine County. All children except Thomas remained in Kentucky.

Jane Overstreet [Parents] was born 1, 2 on 22 Dec 1766 in Hanover Co., Va. She died 3 in 1840/1843 in Jessamine County, Kentucky, USA. She was buried 4 in Jessamine County, Kentucky, USA. Jane married 5 William Harris about 1785 in Va.

The Harris family has long been established in this community and its members have borne an honorable part in its history including the pioneer struggles and the subsequent development and growth of the various communities with which they have been identified About the year 1740 George Harris arrived in Virginia from Scotland He had two sons Richard and William Richard remained single and became a large land and slave owner In the year 1770 William at the age of twenty three in company with Robert Overstreet and family went to what is now Lexington Kentucky They built a small fort as a protection from the Indians in which they lived Shortly after taking up this residence William Harris and Jane Overstreet daughter of Robert Overstreet were married A small tract of land was cleared and for two or three years the families battled for life against the Indians and struggled for food and clothing Then they moved twelve miles south of Lexington to a point known as the Pocket formed by the circular course of the Kentucky river in Jessamine county.

To William and Jane Harris the following children were born Lewis James John Rice Thomas Betsy Jennie Sealy Sarah Nancy and Susan Besides being a thrifty farmer William Harris was a pioneer preacher and held religious services in the cabins of the country He was past ninety years of age when gathered to his fathers Excepting Thomas _all the members of this family remained in Kentucky. He was a physician, apothecary, farmer, Methodist, Republican and Sunday school teacher. First Doctor in Ellettsville.

Monroe County Biographical Sketches, Richland Township, p. 628-629: "Dr. James M. HARRIS is a native of Jessamine County, Ky., was born October 19, 1819, and is the eldest of the seven children of Thomas and Elizabeth (McCARLEY) HARRIS, natives respectively of Virginia and North Carolina. Thomas Harris, in 1831, located near Smithville, and afterward near Spencer, where our subject passed his boyhood on the farm and in going to school. When twenty years of age, he entered the office of Dr. S.P. LANGDON, of Gosport; remained there two years doing some practice, and soon after located at Ellettsville, where he was the only physician, and where he built up a large business in his way. In 1865, he established a drug trade, which he continued several years before retiring to his farm, embracing 200 acres - a good property and commodious home. March 2, 1843, he married Miss Sarah, daughter of William and Polly FLETCHER, and born August 6, 1823. Twelve children graced this union, six of whom are living - William T., John J., S. Emmet, James F., Hester A., and Lou Jessie. Dr. HARRIS is a Freemason, a Republican, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, an efficient Sunday school worker and temperance advocate. He has also had the office of Township Trustee for six successive years. In 1850, he established the first hotel in Ellettsville, and continued the same for two years. Dr. HARRIS is a public spirited and worthy citizen. Mrs. HARRIS adheres to the Presbyterian Church."
