Elijah Chambers [Parents] was born 1 on 20 Sep 1772 in Maryland. He died 1 on 12 Jan 1855 in Washington Twp, Owen County, Indiana, USA. He was buried 2 in Chambersville Cemetery, Spenser, Owen County, Indiana. Elijah married 1 Rebekah Moore on 18 Nov 1796 in Wilkes Co, Nc.

Elijah worked as Minister.

Primitive Baptist Preacher. Church of Christ Smyrna Primitive Church.
1850 census give his birthplace as Maryland (not Scotland). This is supported by the 1880 census for his son, Elisha.

Died in Washington Township, Owen County, Indiana, January 12, 1855, Mr. Elijah Chambers. He was born near Georgetown, Maryland, on the 20th of September, 1772, and was, at the time of his death, in the 83rd year of his age. He was for 60 years a member in the communion of the Regular Baptist Church and for 57 years was a preacher of the gospel. In his long life he exemplified in his daily walk the faith which for so many years he had professed and preached. In 1818 he removed to Owen County, then almost entirely a wilderness, where he continued to reside until his death. His death was occasioned by a stroke of palsy which deprived him of speech for the last few days of his life. He left the aged companion of his life with whom he had lived 58 years together with his neighbors and a numerous kindred to lament his departure.

Rebekah Moore [Parents] was born 1 on 24 May 1776 in Fluvanna County, Va. She died on 5 Oct 1855 in Owen County, Indiana. Rebekah married 2 Elijah Chambers on 18 Nov 1796 in Wilkes Co, Nc.

John worked as farmer.

Raised on farm Washington Twp, Owen Co, IN.  Still  owns part of it.  In 1854 moved to Lane Co, Kansas, bought land.  Stayed 18 months, then back to Owen Co, IN to 111 1/2 acres where now lives.

Educated distrect schools. At age 23 ran peddling wagon 1 year. Age 24 became partner general merchandise store Stinesville, IN. 2 years in store, then bought flour mill Stinesville, IN.  Managed mill 2 years.  Spring 1870 bought home farm where he born and parents died.  1877 sold farm, went to OR.  Soon returned, bought 100 acres. Masonic fraternity, democrat.

Samuel Newton Chambers [Parents] was born 1 on 1 Oct 1840 in Washington Twp, Owen Co, Indiana, USA. Samuel married Josephine Workman 2.

County Sheriff.  Lived farm until grown, west 6 months, home until 1862 when enlisted Co F 55th IN Volunt4eers under Captain Fair.  Came home from war, to Canada short time, returned to farm.  At age 26 dry goods business in Stinesville, Monroe Co. About 1868 went to California, stayed 1 year. Abt 1869 returned to Stinesville 2 yrs, then moved to Ellettsville, went into drug business with S H Dunn.  Sold drug business in a short while, traveled awhile, then came back to Owen Co. After short stay at home went to Kentucky to farm but in 1875 came back, ran General Merchandise store for Spencer Business Assn 2 years.  Went to Oregon, stayed 2 years until February 1878.  Farmed in Chjambersville, Owen Co one summer. That fall appointed Deputy Sheriff in Spencer, IN. In 1882 elected Sheriff.
