Baptism of the Holy Ghost

Outline by Ken Tyner, Evangelist

October 1, 2007

Introduction:

No man can lead you where he has never been, nor teach you what he has never learned.         Ken Tyner, Evangelist.

John 3: 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 12:13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14For the body is not one member, but many.  Written A.D. 55 approx.

What is the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Baptism means immersion. Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God. Baptism of the Holy Ghost therefore is to be immersed in Gods Spirit. It is a literal, physical experience just like being baptised by water. I did not know this until I received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost in July, 2004.

This is not something we do, it’s the gift of God that He promised to all that repent of sin through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Please remember that we are post “Pentecost” believers. Man has always been saved by God’s grace through faith, since the beginning. Before Pentecost only the prophets were filled with the Holy Ghost. After Pentecost, all penitent believers receive the gift.

Acts 2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

My Personal Testimony:

I was 20 years old before anyone told me about Jesus, and how that I was separated from Him and on my way to hell. A sweet lady shared this with me.

I can still see her trembling as she witnessed to me, just like it was a moment ago. I think that I was her first convert.

I did not however repent at that time, though she invited me to do so. This was on a Thursday I believe.

The things she told me tormented my mind for several days. I had dreams of being cast into hell. I couldn’t take it.

The following Sunday morning I was up with the sun. I got showered and dressed and just waited for the clock to arrive at my departure time.

I don’t even remember what the preacher taught. I just wanted him to hurry up and tell me what I had to do.

I came up at the invitation and said the sinner’s prayer. I wanted forgiveness so much that day. It was amazing.

The preacher told me that I had just become a “born again Christian” and the Holy Ghost was living in my heart.

I was so excited and immediately became zealous for the things of Christ. I diligently studied the scriptures and even went to pastoral college within a year.

That’s a wonderful testimony isn’t it? The only problem is that I wasn’t born again. I only thought I was because that was what I was taught.

It wasn’t until 22 years later that I became a true disciple of Jesus “after” receiving the anointing of the Holy Ghost.

Now there were a lot of things that happened in that 22 year period, too long to explain now. So I’ll try and just cut to the chase for you.

Two years ago my teenage daughters were visiting with me for the summer. My youngest likes to sketch and is really good at it. So I paid her a father’s compliment.

“That is so good, and I am so proud of you”. You would expect an exciting response from her. But this is what I got.

Thank you Daddy, but you know Daddy; a long time ago “you broke my heart”. Well that threw me back a couple of feet in astonishment.

She began to explain how that when she was little, her older sister, by 18 months, was practicing her writing and I gave her a fathers’ compliment.

So she, the youngest, went and did some writing also and in excitement brought it to me so that I could see her writing too. I told her with a little time and practice her writing would be good too. No father’s compliment. It broke her heart. By now my heart was so terribly broken that I hurt her. I couldn’t withhold the tears that began to pour out of my eyes. I love her so much that I would never do anything on purpose to hurt her.

You know that you don’t do things to hurt those that you love. This is the single statement that was about to change my life.

Two weeks after the girls left me I was sitting on my porch meditating on the word of God when I began to remember this story with my daughter.

Again I broke into tears as I rehearsed it. This is when I said in my heart “you don’t do things to hurt those you love” and your behavior doesn’t lie.

All of a sudden I began to remember all the things I have done to hurt God. It was like a flood gate of remembrance was opened up.

It was the first time in 22 years that I realized that I did not truly love God as I thought. I was not faithful. I still lived for my pleasure in this world, and not for Him.

I was so devastated that I just wanted to die. I could not bear this shame that I had hurt God so much and in so many ways. And I knew that I didn’t know how to stop.

I fell down on my knees in such great shame before God. I cried out to him to kill me, so that I could never again hurt him. I didn’t care about this world anymore, or my life.

I could not live in the torment of this great shame, nor could I bear to hurt him anymore. I deserved above all men to be cast into the lake of fire.

Immediately when I poured out the grief of my heart to God, He was right there. All of a sudden the Holy Spirit fell upon me. God was in me and all around me. It was like being baptized.

He was pleased with me, and showed me that true repentance of a broken heart leads to self abandonment and submission to Him.

These are the people in which God gives his Holy Spirit to and the freedom from serving sin. He makes himself known to them and they love him unlike they ever could have imagined before.

You see; I never received Jesus as my savior. He received me and poured out upon me the Holy Ghost, because he rejoiced in the brokenness and humility of my heart that day.

Now I am forever His servant unto death. Jesus is my Lord and my King and my God forever more. To whom much is forgiven, they love much.

I hope that the “religion” of Christianity doesn’t deceive you as it did me.

Ken Tyner

Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. And the gospel must first be published among all nations. But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

A New Creature:   2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Being born again is like the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Caterpillars don’t just grow wings and fly, they become a new creature altogether. Christ does not just become a part of us, but we also become a part of him. It’s a union of two spirits into one.

The apostle Paul uses the analogy of “the mystery” of marriage.

Ephesians 5:30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

The new life of a child is conceived and born, when a man and his wife come together as one.  In like manner, we are “born again” into a new creature!

We begin to see and hear things that we never did before. We begin to know things we never even thought of before. We receive knowledge of things that we have never studied. We begin to know things that we could not have possibly known. We are able to see and understand what is in the hearts of others. The things we used to value lose their worth and are replaced by greater values. The way we think and reason completely changes. We are freely and gladly willing to lay down our lives to save those that hate us.

Indeed, we become new creatures in Christ. So much so, others think of us as peculiar.

1 Peter 2:9But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Titus 2:11For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

1 Peter 4:1Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:

4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: 5Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead. 6For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

There are many false teachings today, about this gift from God, and it’s relevance to salvation.

1. There is no Spirit baptism today.

2. It’s a secret indwelling manifested by a change of behavior, a new creature, without power to overcome sin, usually known as “Carnal Christianity”.

3. It’s a secondary anointing manifested by speaking in tongues, laughter or being slain in the spirit and acting foolishly. Both 2 and 3, a secret indwelling followed by the baptism.

4 Reasons why people don’t believe what the scriptures teach:

1. They haven’t studied the scriptures-lack of knowledge. My people perish for lack of knowledge.  They have a great zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. Why study something that doesn’t exist today?

2. They never experienced the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. They never truly repented or God is a liar, and I assure you God is no liar.

3. They follow the teachings of others who never studied or experienced the baptism. They make the word of God of none affect through the doctrines and teachings of men that turn from the truth.

4. They are proud and won’t admit that they could possibly still be lost. They believe what the preachers taught. Believe that Jesus is the Christ. Say the sinners’ prayer and be baptized by water. That makes you a born again Christian.

Pride cometh before a fall/the Lord resist the proud.

Who is the final authority of truth, the word of God or the word of men? God is our final authority!

So let’s look at what is written in the scriptures: Gods’ word.

Acts 1:4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

1 Corinthians 12:13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14For the body is not one member, but many.  A.D. 55

2 Corithians 1: 18as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay. 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. 20For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. 21Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. A.D. 55

Ephesians 1:10That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: 11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: 12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. A.D. 60

Ephesians 4:29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Romans 8:9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  A.D. 57

2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Why the baptism of the Holy Ghost:

  1. Fulfillment of prophecy. God always proves Himself.
  2. To be one with Christ, in one body.
  3. To comfort us.
  4. To teach us truth.
  5. To empower us to be witnesses of the truth.
  6. To bear fruit unto God. Make disciples.

What is required of a person, to be received by God and given the Gift of the Holy Ghost?  For many are called, but few are chosen.

Only Three things specifically:

  1. You must believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God.
  2. You must repent of sin. That means to turn from, stop, cease and desist from rebellion/sedition against God to obey Him in all things.
  3. You must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, by immersion in water.

I know that carnally minded preachers are teaching that people can’t stop sinning while they are here in this world, in a fleshly body. That’s a lie! Not only can we, we are commanded by Jesus “to go and sin no more”! That’s what repentance is: you can’t repent of sin and continue sinning. That’s a contradiction of the very meaning of repentance.

The primary teachings of Jesus concerning our salvation:

  1. Believe on Him. John 1:9-14, 7:37-39
  2. Repent and be converted. Acts 3:19, 28:27
  3. Obey: turn from serving sin to serve the living God. Acts 5:32 Romans 1:18
  4. Baptized by water and spirit. John 3:5, Acts 2:38
  5. Take up your cross. Luke 14, Matthew 10
  6. Witness: teach others to do the same. Matt 10: 32-33, 28:18-20,
  7. Be faithful unto death or His return. Hebrews 2:1-4, 2 Peter 2:18-22

These are things that “we” must do, except of course the Spirit Baptism. People teach there are no conditions, on our part, for our salvation. That’s just not true! Here are Seven specific things that “we” are commanded to do, or we cannot enter the kingdom of God.

There are some “men” that require things of you that God doesn’t!

Acts 15:1And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. 2When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. 3And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. 4And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. 5But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. 7And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

12Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. 13And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: 14Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. 15And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, 16After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: 17That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. 18Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. 19Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. 21For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

Other scriptural evidence for the baptism of the Holy Ghost:

  1. The day of Pentecost. There were 120 people in upper room that received gift of Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:12Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey. 13And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. 14These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.15And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

Acts 2:1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord

in one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty  wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto

them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all

filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto       them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon

all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, andfire, and vapour of smoke: 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  1. 3000 receive Holy Ghost and added to the church.

Acts 2:37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. 40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

  1. Stephen, full of the Holy Ghost works miracles.

Acts 6:1And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. 2Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. 5And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: 6Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them. 7And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. 9Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. 10And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. 11Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. 12And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, 13And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: 14For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us. 15And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. Peter with Cornelius. His relatives and servants receive Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:1There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. 3He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. 4And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God. 5And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do. 7And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 8And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

Acts 10:34Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40Him God raised up the third day, and showed him openly; 41Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

44While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 11:11And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. 12And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: 13And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? 18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

  1. People of Samaria receive baptism of Holy Ghost.

Acts 8:14Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 15Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 16(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) 17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

  1. Paul lays on hands for Corinthian believers to receive gift.

Acts  19:1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7And all the men were about twelve.

Prophecies concerning the Baptism of the Holy Ghost:

Proverbs 1:20Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 21She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 32For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Jeremiah 31:31Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 32Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 33But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Ezekiel 36:25Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Joel 2:28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 30And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. 32And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

Fulfillment of the Prophecies:

Hebrews 8:6But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. 7For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. 8For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

Acts 2:14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

John 1:33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Titus 3:1Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 2To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. 3For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

Closing statement:

There were many proofs shown in this study about the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. The gift of God was given to both the Jews and the Gentiles. Great wonders, signs and miracles were wrought by the Apostles and even Stephen, a deacon. Even as late as A.D. 55-60 Paul writes to the Corinthians and Ephesians about the baptism of the Holy Ghost and how we are all baptized into one body by one Spirit. This proves that the baptism of the Holy Ghost was not limited to any specific people, Jew or Gentile, or timeline. The only limitations were to believe the gospel, repent and be water baptized in Jesus name.

Matthew 28:18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Philippians 2:12Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
