We breed only
Golden Retrievers...
Well, we have added more Goldens to our household. Zema Luz, Temperance
and Smoke, born 02/2010. These Goldens are all English Whites and will start a new adventure
for us in 2012. I added a page with more about each of them, check back often for updates and let me know
which one is your favorite.
OUR
GOLDENS
ARE
OUR
PETS.
We are, Ray & Jodi and we have nine of them living with us, seven females, Honey, Peaches, Diamond, Buttercup, Zema Luz, Taffy and Rose and two males, Zeus and
Smoke.
Our Daughter and Son-in-law, Mike & Amanda, have four living with them, three females, Caidee Mae, Trinity
and Temperance and one male, Colt.
Our Dusty Girl now lives with Ray's mother, Helen. Her house was broken into one Sunday Morning while
everyone was at Church. Dusty has an amazing voice and is calm yet protective enough to be the perfect pet for Helen.
Zeus, born 01/04 he comes from near St Louis, Missouri and is described by two vets and a groomer/handler as an Excellent Standard, this
may not sound like a compliment at first, but it means he meets every Golden requirement. He is full boned, broad chest and
head, great golden color, flags and the best tail, I have ever seen. He also wears the famous golden smile. Honey,
born 10/04, is from Asheville, North Carolina,
with championship bloodlines, lighter coloring, great flags and tail with a slender leggy build. Caidee Mae,
born 12/04, is the daughter of Zeus and Layla and is the absolute epitome of a Golden Retriever. She is an obedient, smart, and loving, Red Gold with a stocky build and Great, can I say it again, Great
Golden temperament. Dusty and Trinity, born 08/05, come from Bowerston, Ohio and hail from English Whites with five grand champions in their
father's bloodline within the last seven generations. Dusty is a red Golden and is as calm and sweet as they come... She stole
my Husband's heart from the very first moment. Trinity is a medium gold with red overtones. Peaches,
born 11/06 is from Farmington, Missouri.
She is a petite, very light Golden with peach accents in her coat. Her parents carry championship bloodlines and both received
Top Championship Status in C.K.C. Shows, as well as holding Championships in A.K.C.
events. Mike & Amanda have a male, Colt, born 01/07; he comes from Shamokin, Pennsylvania, has championship bloodlines from both his parents and is a
big, Gold male with a great build, coat, flags and temperament. We kept two females from the litter between Honey and
Jake to add to our mommy list, Buttercup and Diamond, born 09/07.
These two are awesome mommies, but then what else could I have expected. Buttercup is the bigger and lighter of the two but
Diamond is a great gold color. Both are very athletic and their puppies would be great for the active family. Having said
that, I would stack them against any, for being a great housedog... then along came our English White Goldens, they were
all three born in 02/10. There is Smoke, the male, and Zema Luz
and Temperance the females. I am so excited about their litters and can hardly wait
for 2012. Because our red goldens are getting a little age on them, we decided to breed our Dusty girl with another
dark red golden, Bailey and keep one of the little girls... we were shocked when the little girls weren't as dark red
as a puppy from Diamond and Colt. However the personality of Dusty and Bailey meant, yes, we fell head over heels
in love, so we added Taffy, born 08/10, to our
household. We kept hoping for another dark red golden and soon added Rose,
born 09/10 from Glennwood, Iowa. Originally, I named her Garnet after my birthstone and because of the deep
dark red color of her coat, but I found myself feeling like I was scolding her everytime I said her name...Darn it = Garnet... so she is re-named after the Iowa
State Flower which is a Prairie Rose... she proves that when one opportunity passes, the next one is the perfect
opportunity... she is a great addition to our goldens and everyone loves her.

An important aspect of raising
successful litters is that the breeder give the puppy the best possible start by ensuring Early Neurological Stimulation,
sensitization to sight sounds and smells and socialization to a variety of people and places. There are even some steps a
breeder can take before birth to improve puppy temperaments and stability; Ensuring
the parents have the proper temperament is vital and giving the Mommy lots of attention while she is pregnant. Research
has shown that puppies, born to a mommy who receives physical contact while pregnant and a quality diet with Omega-3
fatty acids (DHA), have increased cognitive function and problem solving abilities. While all our Goldens are our pets, our mommies do tend to become the "PETS" during their
pregnancy. They are kept in full time the last three weeks of their pregnancy, eat puppy chow and extras, while
also getting the much sought after belly rubs... After the delivery,
the puppies are evaluated as well, using a 'Biotinus Test' to evaluate a newborn's 'vigor for life'. The puppy is placed 2 puppy
lengths from mommy, facing away, to see how long it takes the puppy to get back to Mommy for it's first meal... this
is usually accomplished within seconds...
Starting at three days of age, Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is performed on each puppy, once per day through sixteen days of age. ENS consists of five
exercises, done in sequence, for 3-5 seconds each: tickle the puppy between two toes; hold the puppy with its head up; hold
the puppy with its head down; hold the puppy on its back; and place the puppy belly down on a cold washcloth or towel. The
puppy should be safely and securely held and should not be afraid of falling during these exercises. The ENS protocol, also
called the “Bio-Sensor” or “Superdog” program, was originally used by the US Military for their canine
corps. The exercises have been shown to improve heart rate and strength, intelligence, strengthen the functioning of the adrenal
gland and increase tolerance to stress and resistance to disease.
By the time you come over to pick out your puppy, we have already spent three weeks
training, handling and socializing them. The following three weeks are spent shaping their individual personalities and
manners. We start teaching manners, housebreaking, playing and rules. Every puppy is taught the command "no" and
respects it. When the puppies are eating, they are taught manners as well, they are not allowed to push other puppies
away, put their feet in the bowl, be piggies and they learn to tolerate being touched, petted or even interupted while
eating.
Ensuring that puppies are introduced to new sensations and adequately socialized to sights, sounds and people is one
of the most important and often overlooked aspects of raising a litter of puppies. By spending the time from birth thoroughly
socializing the litter, we can give our puppies the best possible chance to develope into temperamentally sound adults.
