Hi! My name is Linda (Loar) Navarro. I went to Camp Tawanka for 5 summers when I was young and looked forward to it
every year. Many years later when I was in college I went to the job services office and saw a posting on the bulletin board
for counselors. I immediately wrote a letter to Mrs. B and soon after got a call that I was hired. I couldn't believe she
still remembered me! She also remembered my sister Cheryl and hired her as well. As a counselor my time was split between
waterfront and archery and I loved every minute of it!
Some of my fondest memories are of the time I spent at camp
Tawanka. My favorite memory is of the wishing fire. I remember standing in the dark watching the crackling fire as we sang
beautiful songs like "There is a Ship" and another one about going home that I can't remember. (Can anyone help with that?).
Then from out on the water we would hear faint singing and the sounds of oars far away that gradually got closer. Then we
would see row boats with counselors laying candles in the water and we would continue to sing as we looked out at the flames
reflecting on the water. It was a breathtaking moment. The only thing that would ruin it was those pesky mosquitos and deer
flies!!!(My worst camp memory!)
