Is President Bush really fighting the war on terror with a maximum effort?
I don't think so.
It is rally more of a skirmish with terrorism and has become a GOP political tactic to keep their party
in power by waging the politics of fear.
If we were really waging a full scale war on terror we would defoliate the Afganistan poppy fields which
according to a December 2005 60 Minutes report the annual harvest of these poppies is financing 80% of world
terror groups. In a real war you utilize any means to cut off the enemy's ability to wage war and cuting their financial
supply lines should be top priority.
Also in a real war the American borders would be secured-especially with Mexico. This won't be done partially
because of the risk of alienating Latino voters and American businessmen who want the cheap labor but mainly because there
are a lot of folks on both sides of the border getting rich from the South American cocaine cartel's illicit drug trafficing
across the border. The mafia in a partnership with US businessmen.
In a serious war on terror taxes would be raised to finance it as has been done in every serious war in
history(and some not so serious). You don't cut taxes if there is real threat to our nations security.
Finally-where are the war on terror bonds? Why are we not purchasing war on terror bonds as we leave the
movie theater, the local video rental store and as we click to purchase our pay-per-view movies.
Sorry folks but the war on terror is just a big emty PR fear campaign-a con job put over on the American
public by the neocons more interested in retaining power than protecting our nation.
