Another group of families that I've hit a deadend with.I can go back to when they arrived in southwestern Ohio,but no further.All three families settled in the area of Washington and Athens counties. In all cases,I know where they came from as far as which state it was,but that is it.I have only met one other descendent,and that just recently on the internet,we've yet to exchange information.Most of my info comes from census records as well as county records that I've researched on visits to county courthouse in Logan,Athens, and Marrietta.
I have limited information on other lines of descendents,the same applies to his son George W and grandson George H France.George H FRANCE was a doctor,and lived in Carbondale,Ohio,where he died.
The TAYLOR family settled near the FRANCE family in the same hollow.There were a few cival war veterans in this line as well as the FRANCE line.As with the FRANCE and SHIRLEY families,there have been very few marked graves to find. I presume this is because of the depressed area that they lived in.
The SHIRLEY family is interesting,John SHIRLEY came from Pennsylvania,his wives were both from Virginia.Between the two wives,there were at least 12 children,yet I have had a terrible time finding any other descendents.I do know when about he died,but thats it.I presume he is buried with his second wife,but not positive.There were some legal problems after his death concerning his estate and also concerning the mental health of his widow in her later years,as well as the custody of her.He married both wives in Washington Co,Ohio.It's possible that the other Shirly marriage's at about the same time as his in Washington County are those of his siblings.
