GEBHART FAMILY HISTORY

INCL. THE McCRAY FAMILY

I have the GEBHART family all the way back to the Palatinate region of Germany. The family first arrived in America in early 1700's,settling in Berks County,Pennsylvania.I had some intermarriages of cousins in this family .A bunch of families migrated to southern Montgomery County area in Ohio about 1805 and later.Julia HAGWOOD of Dayton published a book about the GEBHART family. She has tons of information in her book, from the beginnings of the family in Germany to their arrival in America and movement west to Ohio from Pennsylvania. She has information it seems on almost every Gebhart/Gephart family that settled in southwestern Ohio. There are no more copies of the book available,so if you are interested in finding information from it,please email me.I can also give her name and new address if you are interested in communicating with her.

I'll start with my 3great-grandfather,Adam GEBHART,who married Elizabeth DENISE .He was a teamster on the canals in the midwest. For the most part they lived in the Miamisburg area, but one child was born in Indiana.Tracking their descendents has been difficult,as I have yet to find any living ones.I do know that one son ended up in Nebraska and another in Benton County,Indiana. Both had large families.

George W GEBHART lived in the West Carrollton,Ohio area, with his wife,Hannah McCRAY.Hannah McCRAY was the Daughter of Jesse McCRAY and Elizabeth GEBHART.Hannah and George were third cousins.I don't have much on the McCRAY descendents, would like to find some of course.I do know that Jesse came from Kentucky and settled in Madison Twp of Warren County.

George and Hannah had three children, only 2 producing heirs.I have some information on the other line, but not much. One of the children,Hannah Gebhart,is my ancestor, she maried Adam Kehrle.

JULIA HAGWOOD-of Centerville,Ohio. Unortunatly, Julia passed away in July, 2007. I have a copy of her book, "Gebhart/Gephart, And related Families, 1609-1996". It has hundreds of individuals that aer descended from Joachim Gebhart, mostly of those that migrated to southwestern Ohio from Pennsylvania. There is a copy of the book at teh library in Miamisburg, Ohio, and I beleive there is a copy in Dayton and Wright State as well. Obviously, with her passing, I would not think that there are any other printings of this book available.
