WxUpdate: Data Acquision Software Running as a Service
My 1-Wire Weather Service for Java is now running under the Windows Service Control Manager using a free, open-source
program called JavaService. This little utility is essential for anyone writing services in Java.

Wx Update: My Own Java Weather Service is Now Online
I wrote my own weather data acquisition software to collect data from the sensors and post it to APRS and Weather Underground
Data Exchange. I will write up a description and post in on the Weather Station page in the next several days.

Wx Update: I've Had the Station Off the Air Lately
I've been developing a Java weather server using the Dallas One Wire API (OWAPI) SDK. I hope to have it posting to Weather
Underground and CWOP using the new software in a week or so. Eventually, I'll have remote UI and control software and other
refinements.

WX Update: Still No Cigar...
The shot-in-the-dark tweaks didn't help. I'm still waiting for the parts to make new cables.

WX Update: Tweaking the 1-Wire Slew Rate
Decreasing the pulldown slew rate from the default, even by one step, caused an increase in errors, whereas increasing
it all the way up to 15v/us seemed to reduce the errors. So I increased the pulldown slew rate from 1.37v/us (default) to
1.65v/us and left it there.
I sure wish this 1-Wire protocol used balanced data lines (like RS422) instead of single-ended (like RS232). It would
definitely work a lot better over UTP lines like CAT5. This single-ended stuff is too touchy-feely.

Welcome!
This site is dedicated to my interest in engineering. I use it as a place to just put stuff "out there" for anyone who
might be interested, as well as a job search tool. This page contains my engineering web log (to your left). Anything that
seems timeless enough, or too involved for a log entry may get it's own page as a full-blown article. And, of course, my resume
is here for anyone who might be considering hiring me to do something. Email me.
About Me
I have worked as a broadcast engineer, electronics designer (analog and digital) and software developer. I especially
enjoy audio engineering, although I've been writing software for the last several years, since that's where the opportunities
are in the Pacific Northwest (this is Microsoft country after all). I'm currently working as a Senior Staff Engineer -- Resume at another large independent software vendor in Washington State.
I majored in mathematics and physics in college. Other interests include music appreciation (baroque, classical and early
romantic, ragtime, and 60's and 70's rock & roll), high fidelity audio electronics, meteorology and of course, computing
hardware and software. I tend to think a lot like this guy.
