American Cancer Society

2350 Oakmont Way, Suite 200
Eugene, OR 97401

One of our services is free wig and prosthesis banks to women who are experiencing side affects from their cancer treatment. In those banks we also receive donations of hats, scarves, turbans, etc. I manage these types of services in 11 counties, so when we receive donations here, we share with other areas if needed. We are always in need of caps, turbans, and any kind of head covering that looks nice, but is also comfortable on a bald head with possibly sensitive skin.

Sunrise Enterprises Inc.

Sam Gardner, Executive Director
 sam@sunriseenterprisesinc.com
1950 NW Mulholland Dr.
Roseburg, OR 97470
(541) 673-0195

Our organization trains and employs about 110 people with developmental disabilities. You can find out a little more about us at www.SunriseEnterprisesInc.com. Each year we have two big events for our consumers: a picnic and a Christmas party. Since many of the consumers live in group homes, etc., the Christmas party is the highlight of their holidays. We have a big dinner with all the trimmings and make sure each person who attends gets a gift. The Christmas party is open to the entire community and we usually have about 300 people in attendance. Some of the things we could use: Adult-aged gift items (clothing, games, etc.) for the Christmas party, Prizes for our picnic, and Table decorations for the Christmas party. We would love to get donations of these items if your group is interested. Let me know if you need further information.

Afghans for Angels

NOTE:  The website for this chapter calls on donors to give the blankets to hospitals in their own area rather than send them to the particular chapter.    Be sure to label the items you donate "Afghans for Angels".  Let Nan know where you sent items.

“Afghans for Angels” is an organization made up completely of volunteers who make and distribute baby blankets to local hospitals to give to parents who have suffered the loss of their infant through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.  Our “Afghans for Angels” are placed lovingly around these infant angels when they are held by their families for the brief time in which bittersweet hellos and sad good-byes are said. The parents are then allowed to keep these afghans as a token of remembrance of their baby. Just having something soft to hold is often comforting.

Here are a few suggestions in making "angel afghans"...

Please make all blankets in baby colors. Some of the ones that work the best are: pastel blue, pink, mint green, white, or variegated baby colors.

The average size of an "angel afghan" is about 2 feet square. But blankets are needed in every size from the tiny, preemie-sized 12 X 12 inch size all the way up to full size baby blankets.

This "fetal demise pouch" pattern is also a nice alternative to a standard blanket for our tiniest angels.

Any extra special touches are welcome. This is what will make each "angel afghan" so unique and special.

Donations we could use:

  • Finished blankets in baby colors
  • Yarn in baby colors (Sport Weight and/or 4 Ply Weight)
  • Material suitable for babies
  • Sewing notions
  • Clear Steralite plastic tubs, 58 quart
  • Tax-deductible financial donations can also be made to Afghans For Angels.  Please contact our state coordinator for further information.

Most of all, we need your help to get the word out! The more volunteers we have; the more families can benefit from our services.  Please help us to help others.
