Tacoma, WA 98409
Tacoma Goodwill Industries employs a large number (64) of foreign-born
workers. Most in the Tacoma area are from South Viet Nam and Cambodia.
They are also students in Goodwill's ESL (English as a Second Language)
Program. These workers are older and are first generation refugees to the
U.S. They work extremely hard under difficult conditions. They stand 8
hours a day. In the winter, the production area where they work is very
cold. It would be wonderful if I could give them newly made warm scarves
to wear.

Fleece socks in assorted sizes and fleece toques. The feet are the
first part of the body to grow cold, often many days before the process of
active dying, warm socks such as fleece would be most appreciated. Guests
do not generally go out much in the winter, however, we have a beautiful
patio that gets utilized in the spring, summer and fall. Toques are not
something that many think to bring in with them and are often needed in
order to be sitting outside and enjoying the sunshine.

Our clients, homeless youth, often sleep in doorways in the street at
night. This is especially challenging in the winter time when it is so
desperately cold out. Warm things like scarves, hats gloves and sweaters
can make a significant difference. If you could consider homeless youth
for one of your winter months that would be fantastic. These kids are much
like any other, they just don't have families that care for them. It is
very sad. Outside In is part of a tri agency continuum serving homeless
youth. The place to make the donation would be through Janus Youth
Programs, as they have a clothing distribution center for our clients as
well as New Avenues for Youth, one of our continuum partners.
