Richmond and Grinton

The next day, we decided to take it easy. Lolled around in bed while kids walked under our window heading for the school buses. And didn't miss those days a bit. Then walked to the auction barn, down into Gayle, and back to Hawes.

On the road down to Gayle, a border collie on her way to work..

A sweet pup in Gayle.

Saint Margaret's - proud above Hawes.

A stop at Crocketts for Cumberland sausage for breakfast and lamb chops for dinner. They cut the chops from a big loin - and ask if each one is satisfactory! We sure don't get this at home. And back to Rockville Cottage for a mini fry-up.

After a stroll into town for a bit of shopping for dinner, we headed off to Richmond.

We wandered around the market square a while. Then went down the lanes below Richmond Castle, which goes back to a supporter of William the Conqueror, to the River Swale.

Nancy wades in the icy water below the falls.

And meets a friendly pup.

Then we climbed the stairs above the Swale to the castle, walked back dow to shop at the Market Hall, and visited the Black Lion for halves.

Back to the car and off to Swaledale and Grinton. Yes, the end of the Corpse Way. If we didn't get the start right, we did get the end.

Saint Andrew's church.

What a perfect kneeler!.

And into Reeth, where we get Swaledale ice creams and wander the back lanes. Then over the road through the military firing ranges - Do Not Touch Anything. It Might Explode And Kill You - to Leyburn. Another stroll. And then "home". Shower, relax. Chuck lights a fire. We cook mashed potato and sauteed lamb chops with veggies.
