Cannon Beach, Oregon VI

Minus tides and variable weather created some great scenery in May and June of 2016.
Lots of people on the beaches, and some nice days made it very enjoyable.  Even the infrequent
showers were not enough to dampen our spirits, and in fact, made for interesting weatherscapes.

A weekend in May lends itself to a great walk down past Tolovana and nice sunsets.

Looking past Tolovana north to Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach in the distance.

This part of the beach is almost aways secluded and private, especially during the week.

Raptors cause panic amont the roosting seabirds on the rock. Some of the seabirds actually fought back and
chased the Bald Eagle intruders away.  The dark shape center left is one of them.

The sunset beach is practically deserted, the lighthouse visible on the horizon.

June weather was beautiful and variable.  Some of the best views along the beach front ever.
A series of alternate cloudy and sunny weather patterns made for some good beach walking and
people watching.  The minus tides allowed views of the Rock we usually don't see.

The Cannon Beach Haystack Rock Awareness Program truck visits the Rock at low tides
to inform visitors and keep an eye on this sensitive habitat.

Water swirls in exposed tide pools.

The base of the Rock and its creatures are totally exposed.

Water drips from recently exposed rocks.

Three healthy starfish - the first since the Wasting Disease struck in 2014.

Anenomes bloom in the remaining tide pools.

Spending time on the beach watching people and weather come and go.

Life is good!

A spike in warming ocean waters brought many of these 'by-the-wind-sailors' to the North Pacific Coast.

Our hotel is the two-story, brown building in the center; the first on Cannon Beach.
