Aberystwyth Castle Ruins

Llanrhystud

The national symbol of Wales.

The view from the National Library of Wales.  The castle ruins can be seen at the left.

The National Library of Wales contains the National Archives where we spent a day researching ancestral lineage.

View of the University from the castle ruins.

Aberystwyth University and St. Michael's Anglican church.

St. Michael's with the University in the background.

Our hotel on the Promenade.

We had nice views of the sunsets from our hotel room

View South from the hotel, along the Promenade.

Along the Promenade

Starting at the North end.

Looking North.  Constitution Hill rises up from the North end of the Promenade.

The Promenade is lined with flags of minority European states or nations with their own language, such as Wales and the Basque provinces in Spain.

This flock of birds put on a nice swooping and diving aerial display one evening.

The original Aberystwyth University building.

Around the Town

Aberystwyth is a university town as well as a seaside resort location.
There are lots of quaint shops and businesses catering to summer visitors.
It was pretty quiet when we were here in October.

Aberystwyth train station.

Views from the Top of Constitution Hill

Looking out from the tram to the top.

Looking North along the coast.

Dining out
We had some great meals in Aberystwyth
Typical English comfort food, pretty heavy
.

A nice meat pie.

In the White Horse Pub.

Went to a friend's house for some traditional Welsh Cawl - lamb stew with cheese and butter bread.

Bread pudding for desert.
