Andrew J. Nipper served in the Civil War as a private in Company C of the 109th Illinois Infantry. He enlisted on 14 Aug 1862, mustered in on 11 Sep 1862, hospitalized on March 1863 in Memphis, Tennessee with debility, and discharged 16 Apr 1863 in Memphis. He attended Civil War soldiers' reunions. He was pensioned because of disease of the lungs. (Dexter 1997, page 137).
