Eliza Jane EMERY (daughter of John EMERY & Mary LANDRETH) was born on 20 May 1861 in Illinois. She died in 1950. She is buried in Anna Cemetery in Anna, IL.

Her parents both died young. At age 19 (1880 Census), she was listed as a ward of her uncle John Landreth and his wife Elizabeth (actually it was probably Jonathan Landreth, not John Landreth). The Soldiers of Union County, IL (Dexter 1997) also indicates she was appointed as a ward of John Landreth on 18 Apr 1865. She was eligible for a pension ($96 per year) as a result of her father John Emery's death in the Civil War. She is also listed in Union County, IL probate records (Probate Book 6, page 534 and guardianship box 578a).

Eliza married John William HESS, son of John HESS and Soloma Sarah CRAVER, on 27 Apr 1881 in Union County, IL. John was born on 28 Dec 1855 in Union County, IL. He died in 1892. He is buried in Anna City Cemetery in Anna, IL.
