Dear Voter,
I would like to take this time to share a little about myself, my family, and my desires to serve as the Clerk of Superior
Court for the citizens of Clay County. As many of you know, I have lived most of my life in Clay County. I
am the son of Emogene Barrett, and I graduated from Hayesville High School in 1986. In 1991, after graduating from Western
Carolina University and securing employment in Winston-Salem, NC, I married my high school sweetheart, Tina. Currently,
Tina is a seventh grade teacher at Hayesville Middle School. We have two wonderful boys, Ethan, who is fourteen
and Luke, who is ten. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, serving God, attending Meadow
Grove Baptist Church, fishing, and coaching Little League Baseball.
My knowledge with court proceedings was initiated during my educational studies in the Criminal
Justice program at Western Carolina University. This knowledge expanded and grew when I began my
career with the North Carolina Department of Probation and Parole in 1991. During my fifteen years with probation,
ten years in Winston-Salem, NC and five in Clay and Cherokee counties, I had the opportunity to work first
hand in courtrooms with clerks, judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and the general public. I have had experience with
court proceedings on a large scale in Winston-Salem, where I experienced seven court rooms operating simultaneously
on a daily basis, which prepares me to handle growth within the Clay County Court system.
For five years, I also had the opportunity to work in the Cherokee County courtroom and with
the current Clay County Clerk of Court and his staff. Therefore, I have a very thorough understanding as to how
the Clay County Court system operates. I understand court proceedings and the day to day responsibilities
and duties that are required for the Office of Clerk of Court.
My current position with Clay County Farm Bureau as an insurance agent has also prepared me for
this position. During these four years, I have had the pleasure of serving the citizens of Clay County with their insurance,
financial, and estate planning needs. I now have a background in business operations and will be prepared to
handle the business and financial decisions and aspects within the office of the Clerk of Court.
These experiences have more than adequately prepared me to serve in the Clerk of Court position. If elected
to the Office of the Clerk of Court, I will bring a diverse background of first hand experience from within the court
system, business protocol, and a record of public service. I consider myself a public servant, and I
pledge to serve the citizens of Clay County with dignity, dedication, commitment and professionalism.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I would appreciate your support and vote in the upcoming
Primary Election on May 4th.
Sincerely,
Tim Barrett
