Proper
Shoe Selection |
Proper
shoe selection is an important part of injury prevention.
Forces greater than three to five times your body weight
are placed on your feet and dissipated up your leg when
you run. Not only does running place a lot of force
on the foot, but also walking and everyday activity
can place enough stress on the foot to cause pain. The
right running shoes will accommodate the needs of the
individual walker and runner and can help enhance comfort
and performance. |
Runner's
Knee |
Chondromalacia
Patella, or “Runner’s Knee” occurs
when repeated stress on the knee causes inflammation
and a gradual softening of the cartilage under the kneecap
(patella). The inflammation of the cartilage prevents
the kneecap from gliding smoothly over the end of the
thigh bone (femur), causing pain and swelling of the
knee. The underside of the kneecap should be smooth
and move within the femoral groove (a groove on the
top of the thigh bone). If the kneecap is pulled sideways,
it becomes rough like sandpaper and the symptoms reappear.
|
Shin
Splints |
The lower
leg pain resulting from shin splints is causes by very
small tears in the leg muscles at their point of attachment
to the bone. There are two types, anterior and posterior.
Anterior shin splints occur in the front portion of
the shin bone (tibia). Posterior shin splints occur
on the inside (medial) part of the leg along the tibia.
Anterior shin splints are due to muscle imbalances,
insufficient shock absorption or toe running. Excessive
pronation (the foot’s tendency to roll inward
during running) contributes to both types.
|
Plantar
Fasciitis |
The
plantar fascia is tough fibrous tissue along the bottom
of the foot , traveling from the heel to the toes. Inflammation
of this structure is called plantar fasciitis and is
usually felt as pain in the arch, near the heel. Runners
usually find that the first step out of bed in the morning
is the worst, and then the pain gradually decreases
during the day. Predisposing conditions include overpronation
of the foot, tight calf muscles, poor ankle flexibility,
and weak muscles on the bottom of the foot. |
Tendon
Injuries |
Knee
tendon injuries range from tendinitis (inflammation
of a tendon) to a ruptured (torn) tendon. If a person
overuses a tendon during certain activities such as
dancing, cycling, or running, the tendon stretches like
a worn-out rubber band and becomes inflamed.
Movements
such as trying to break a fall may cause excessive contraction
of the quadriceps muscles and tear the quadriceps tendon
above the patella or the patellar tendon below the patella.
This
type of injury is most likely to happen in older people
whose tendons tend to be weaker. Tendinitis of the patellar
tendon is sometimes called jumper's knee. This is because
in sports requiring jumping, such as basketball, the
muscle contraction and force of hitting the ground after
a jump strain the tendon. The tendon may become inflamed
or tear after repeated stress. |

Team Sports
Our team members
are specialized in the Team Sports Equipment program. They
service our middle and upper schools’ accounts with
individual attention.
For
example, during the spring track season, these employees
will visit the schools, meet with the runners and the coaches,
screen each athlete for any abnormalities and then place
each in the appropriate shoe. The same is true with basketball,
football, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, racquetball, squash,
tennis and cheerleading.
This personal
approach reduces serious foot injury — one of the
leading factors why our business has been so successful!
We also cover
your team apparel needs! Once we have sizes, we order uniforms
and embroider or screen print any design or logo you desire.
Almost any sports uniform may be ordered and personalized.
- Baseball,
Basketball, Football, Soccer, Track, Volleyball, or Wrestling
uniforms.
- Choir or band
warm-ups.
- Cheerleading
uniforms and camp wear.
