PROGRAMS and PROJECTS
Target Beneficiary | Code | Type | Completion | Description |
Membership | M-0010 | Program | 2009 | Grand Reunion |
M-0020 | Program | tbd | Knowledge sharing - The alumni have varied and transferable skills. These skills should be identified and offered to determine the level of interest not just among the membership but also to the general public.
M-0030 | Project | tbd | An administration staff for the association made up of
volunteers with allowance to defray incidental expenses? like transportation
back and forth to the place where the work is performed? Shall we
build or lease the space to conduct the immediate, intermediate and long
term programs? The membership will definitely grow and as we learn, our strengths will lead us to the programs that will most benefit the Alma Mater and the community. We need volunteers to be enthusiastic in providing their community service. Like a well-oiled machine, we'll need office equipment and other resources. We could include an Orientation Center for prospective overseas contract workers (OCW). |
|
M-0040 | Program | tbd | Wellness programs such as hiking, biking and adventure type activities. And how about group travel?
M-0900 | Pool | - | General resources (Cash, equipment, etc.)
Alma Mater | A-0010 | Program | tbd | Tutoring - The alumni can share their knowledge and experience with the students. Data gathering and webpage development for example. A customized webpage will require knowledge in programming. Software budget needed. |
A-0020 | Program | tbd | Scholarships - Many students attend the national high school
to avoid the added cost if attending RAHS. Let's sponsor some of the
deserving students. Let's develop equitable methods of ferreting out students that are not necessarily the brightest but are instead showing attitudes towards learning that are important for success. |
|
A-0030 | Project | tbd | CR improvement. Separate and additional stalls. Plumbing constructed within health codes. At least two stalls for female.
A-0040 | Project | tbd | Drinking fountain with filtration/cooling system. The fountain should be installed in a monitored location to ensure proper usage during school days and protection from abuse when the school is not open. |
|
A-0050 | Project | tbd | Audio/Visual Center for filmmaking - The center will produce educational materials for the school and documentaries for the general public. In the process they'll learn techniques in conducting research much like in the National Geographic. Need video cameras, tripods, computers, image editing equipment, compact disc burners, etc.
A-0060 | Project | tbd | Facilities for athletic programs, e.g. track and field. (Land donor already identified?)
A-0070 | Project | tbd | Establish Boy Scout/Girl Scout troops. There are excellent programs for character development. Merit badges to be earned should be focused on technology, environment protection and rehabilitation, etc. Will need budget for participating in jamborees and other activities.
A-0080 | Project | tbd | Science Fair. Hands-on experiments. Need laboratory equipment that can be housed in a Physics Room after the Fair.
A-0090 | Program | tbd | Establish teams for off-campus or off-shore competitions, e.g. Math and Science competitions. A competition being held in America? That should encourage students to become more driven.
A-0900 | Pool | - | General resources (Cash, equipment, etc.)
Community | C-0010 | Project | tbd | Beautification - Phase I. Let's clean up and enhance into a
park-like setting, e.g. plant trees, the area around the original/real red
arrow monument. Beautification - Phase II. After the clean-up, install a marker with a time capsule somewhere appropriate in that same area. The marker should include the names of donors making a minimum 'to be determined' amount. |
C-0020 | Project | tbd | Telemedicine. We have quite a number of professionals
in the medical field. Aside from the medical missions, we could
probably develop a way to help the community in general even from distant
locations. There are very good websites that provide advise for simple ailments and staying healthy. We can guide them through these resources. |
|
C-0030 | Project | tbd | Branding the town of San Nicolas. San Nicolas, the Red Arrow town!
This was proposed to the Municipal Council for more than a year ago now.
We already have a Red Arrow marker at the corner of the municipal campus to
support this claim. What can be more appropriate than the Red Arrow icon to be adopted by cottage industries like pottery, for example. |
|
C-0040 | Project | tbd | Promoting the town with a specialized event. We can do something like a Red Arrow Yamboree, a festival where we can exploit the merits of the camote. Everything about the lowly camote! Sounds quirky but it's catchy. Have you tasted the fried camote in Malico? We can grow camote along the entire length of the Villa Verde Trail! Let's have contests of the largest, most perfect shape, most creative sculpture, best tasting recipe, most innovative dish, etc.
C-0050 | Project | tbd | Public library integrated with the inventory of resources at the municipal library and all libraries in our municipality e.g. barangay libraries. Need books, cataloging equipment, etc. Need a new library building or perhaps a mobile library?
C-0060 | Project | tbd | Cultural Center that can be used by all the schools for
elective subjects such as music, performing arts and tribal dance.
The programs, especially the ethnic dances can be integrated in tourism projects. |
|
C-0070 | Project | tbd | Department of Tourism assisted project. Establish a 'green' tourist destination that includes campsites and a hiking trail to Malico (through the Villa Verde trail?). Hike the trail to the top of the mountain where a sumptuous feast and an evening of entertainment awaits.
C-0071 | Project | tbd | Horseback riding trail using the Villa Verde Trail. A revenue-generating project that should be spearheaded and managed by the municipal government. For safety and to lend originality, the horses should be led by hand by the indigenous mountain tribe in their tribal costumes.
C-0080 | Project | tbd | Farmers Field School - Farms are slowly being converted into other uses. We'll help farmers transition part of the farms they've been cultivating the same way for years growing palay. Instead of palay, they'll grow high-value crops and perhaps even do it the organic way.
C-0090 | Project | tbd | Memorial for the Red Arrow Division. This project needs major support from the Department of Tourism. The DOT Field Office have already sent a representative to look over the area.
C-0900 | Pool | - | General resources (Cash, equipment, etc.) |
Definitions:
Programs - these are activities that impact the general community (and
that includes the membership) and the Alma Mater.
Some programs/projects may be designed for the members of the association only.
Some programs may have intangible results,
i.e. you know that it's there but there is nothing physical to show for it.
Projects - results can be seen, be touched and will provide long-term benefits
Goals and Objectives:
It is our goal to make a presentation during the second day of the 2009 Grand Reunion. At that time we hope to have identified
one project each for the community and the Alma Mater.
For each project, we will establish a budget and a project team of no more than 7 members
who will oversee the implementation.
The project team will develop a 'Project Notebook' which details the plan, i.e.
with time lines, action items showing the team member
responsible for the action, resources required for the action item, etc.
The break-down of action items must be manageable such that
each action item can be completed within a month or less including slack time.
A selected project will be started only when the proposed plan has been approved
and when 80% of the requirements (in cash or
cash equivalents) already exist. The other 20% will be transferred out of
the corresponding resource pool.
If it is the prudent thing to do to facilitate the timely completion of a
project, we may have to transfer funds from the other pools.
This will be done only after consulting and getting approval from the respective
donors commensurate to the amount being taken out
from the affected pool.
The team will provide status report at least twice a month. An explanation
will be required for any substantial delay that will impact the
estimated completion date.
It is very likely that team members will be residing all over the globe. For the required coordination, each team member must be able
to demonstrate skills in cyberspace/Internet communications such as e-mail, instant messaging, etc.
Upon completion of a project, any or all members of the team will have the
privilege of conducting the final inspection and subsequently
turn over the deliverable to the target beneficiary (the Alma Mater or the
community).
Fundraising Methods:
We must be careful not to co-mingle funds when fundraising. Donors will
have the option to designate where their donations
will be
applied. Using the coding system shown above, receipts for
donations must indicate which project the funds are intended for
or at least
which of the three categories, i.e. membership, alma mater, or
community, the funds will be pooled. We must respect and
protect the
donors' wishes.
We will conduct time-tested methods of fundraising but will also explore what others have
done honoring families or individuals.
A family clan or an individual may take 'ownership' of a project for funding purposes but will be subservient to the
association
in the implementation process to ensure
adherence to the objectives of the project. Donors will be acknowledged
accordingly.
Safeguarding Funds:
Article VII of the BY-LAWS allow for three signatories for the withdrawal of funds.
The repository of the funds shall be a checking (or current) account that
requires three signatories for funds to be withdrawn.
Signatories must include the President, the Treasurer, and one other officer.
Other officers who could sign shall be the
Vice President, Secretary and Auditor.
