Many products available with your family crest!

Lynch's Lair  is Grand Rapids Michigan's only Irish and Celtic Gift Shop. Opened in October of 2004, the store become an instant favorite of those seeking authentic Irish, Scottish and Celtic products. One visit, and you will see why so many customers keep coming back. The store is the culmination of a two year long dream of owner Meagan Andres to bring a quality Celtic and Irish Gift Shop to West Michigan. Her unique flair for displaying the merchandise, along with the products she chooses to offer her customers, make for a truly exceptional shopping adventure.

It's a long way to Tipperary, but you are just clicks away from Lynch's Lair!

Why the name Lynch's Lair?

irishamerican150.jpg

Owner Meagan Andres chose to use her father's family name, Lynch, in the  identity of the store to reflect the family's proud Irish heritage. Her Great Grand-Father, Michael Lynch would be so proud of her.

Lynch's Lair celebrates its second St. Patrick's Day with a parade!!!

Actually, we aren't throwing the parade… but, we'll be in it!   The Ancient Order of Hibernians in America, The Reverend John Whalen McGee Division, of Grand Rapids is again hosting this annual event. While the parade format will be similar to years past, the parade route has been changed for 2006! The Parade route will start on North Division and head SOUTHWARD to Fulton Street, where it will turn EASTWARD and proceed to the parking lot of Park Congregational Church. Click here to see a map of the new parade route!  The change in the route was made, in part to assist in the goal of making the St. Patrick's Day Parade even more family friendly by ending the parade portion of the day's festivities near The Grand Rapids Children's Museum and The Grand Rapids Public Library. Both are planning special activities for parade goers at the end of the parade.

Our mascot, Liam the extra large Leprechaun, will be joined by some of his other leprechaun friends this year. Most notably, the "King of Leprechauns" who will be greeting kids at the end of the parade at the Children's Museum. Photo opportunities and face painting will be available at this location. Poetry readings and other activities are planned at the library.

This year's Parade Grand Marshal is Marty Allen, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Gerald R. Ford Foundation and stalwart supporter of The University of Notre Dame and Aquinas College. The 2006 Spirit of Ireland recipient is Local Family Court Judge Kathleen Feeney, who published a book called "Anna's Friends" to help parents and friends deal with a puzzling disease "Leigh's syndrome."  Judge Feeney wrote the book by documenting the loss of her own 20 month old daughter, Anna, to this mitochondrial disease.

We hope you will consider joining Liam at the 2006 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Downtown Grand Rapids. The Parade begins promptly at Noon on Saturday March 11th.  It's not too long to stand in elements, and this year you can warm up at either the Children's Museum or The Grand Rapids Public Library at the end! To see what last year's Parade looked like, visit our page dedicated to the 2005 St. Patrick's Day Parade!

Celtic Music Lovers are in for some real treats this season!

Everyone knows this is the best time of the year to have a huge selection of venues to go to and groups to hear if you enjoy Celtic Music. Even places that might not usually consider Irish Music will hire Celtic Folk Singers and Bands to compete for your entertainment dollars this time of year! We hope you've been tucking a little extra money aside, as this year; your choices go way beyond the normal St. Patty's Day fair! Lynch's Lair tries to keep up with all of the musicians and venues that will feature Celtic Music on our web page. We even have a special page dedicated just to Music and Entertainment on our web site all year round! There are so many options this year, we suggest you search that page for your favorite group or Pub, and then check their link from our page to get the latest information and schedules. We will however, list a few of our own special picks here:

True Irish Music doesn't come any more authentic than when sung by The Bard of Armaugh himself, Pat Woods!  Always a favorite in West Michigan, Pat will be featured in a fundraising show in Lake Odessa, MI on Saturday, March 18th at the Lake Odessa High School Gym, beginning at around 6:00PM. It's an evening of Irish Entertainment that will also feature "Rare Combination" and local Irish Dancers. Our own, Liam the extra large Leprechaun will be there to meet and greet too! The cause is a good one; it's to help raise money to send some area teens to the "World Youth Day" in Australia next year!

All sorts of acts will be performing all over the area for St. Patrick's Day. Another favorite of ours is Thistle Head, who is scheduled to appear at Bennigan's on 28th Street S.E. from 6-10PM on Friday, March 17th.  We could go on and on… Like Lee Mulder who will be at three great venues on St. Patrick's Day! Visit our Music and Entertainment Page for more great groups, and find out where they'll be performing!

The Entertainment Doesn't End on St. Patrick's Day!

As announced in our last electronic newsletter, (we broke the story!) The Celtic Battle of the Bands is scheduled to begin on March 26th at The Ionia Theatre! The line up is complete, and is filled with absolutely great Irish and Celtic entertainment. It's a short drive to Ionia, but well worth it when you see who will be appearing! Ticket prices are a steal, too! Only $7.50 per person or $20 per family for any of the three shows scheduled for Sundays, 3/26 - 4/30 & 5/21/2006. You can save even more by purchasing "value tickets" for all three dates at only $20 per person of $50 per family! All three shows begin at 2:30PM and run for at least 3 hours. You'll be out in time to enjoy one of Ionia's many great restaurants like Olivera's, Country Kitchen/Peppermill Grill or the "Lamplight Grill."

The Finale of the Celtic Battle of the Bands will take place on Saturday, July 22nd, during the first ever "Celtic Music Festival" at the Ionia Free Fair. Winners from the three previous shows at the Ionia Theatre will be featured during the day, along with other Celtic Music acts not competing for the title. The Winner of The Celtic Battle of the Bands will be announced at about 7:00PM, and will get one final "victory set" at that time! It's a great day of Celtic Music, beginning with bagpipe bands in the parade earlier that day. What's even more impressive is… all of the Ionia Free Fair Celtic Music Festival activities ARE FREE! No tickets are required to see the acts on the E-Park stage, and there is no charge to enter the fairgrounds either! It's a great family day of Celtic Entertainment in the middle of a good old fashioned county fair! (One of the largest in the nation!)

After you've visited the Celtic Battle of the Bands Web Page you still need any more information, you can e-mail celticbattle@gmail.com .

All of this Celtic Entertainment requires some Celtic Research! (And maybe some Celtic Attire!?!)

Lynch's Lair is your "one stop shop" for all of the Celtic Books, Music CD's, Gifts and Zany St. Pat's attire! We aren't normally a "gags and giggles" type of place, but once a year, we've just got to feature some of those crazy things people come to associate with the "fun" side of St. Patrick's Day. So, if it's a green sequin vest covered in shamrocks, or a green feather boa you're looking for, we might be able to help you. We can also assist you with distinctive, unique Irish and Celtic gifts for the more conservative holiday shopper! Books, artwork, recipes, Celtic Jewelry and Fragrances are all available, along with a moderate selection of men's hats and shirts or sweatshirts for adults. There are children's books and toys, and flags and windsocks to express your culture. Celtic crosses as well as a full line of Guinness licensed are also available. Won't you consider visiting Grand Rapid's only Irish gift shop when planning your St. Patrick's Day festivities!

And Finally, Just How Do You Pronounce Celtic???

We know how we prefer!  Here's a page that answers… "Is it KELTIC or SELTIC???"  You may be surprised!

More Choices in Celtic Music Available in Area...  I think every one in West Michigan knows of the Conklin Céilí Band. They are a "Festival Favorite," appearing each year to huge crowds of Irish music lovers. Their CD, "Over the Water Fall" is now available at Lynch's Lair. You can also link to their web site from ours. Celtic music fans should also brace themselves for the début of a new group called "Belfast Gin." Many of the members will look familiar, and judging from the talent this band has joined together, West Michigan is getting another great Celtic Group to add to the several we can already boast about!  When their webpage is up, you can bet we'll have a link to it on our page. For now, you can download their promotional material from our home page. We  also heard a young Scottish Fellow by the name of Andrew Gordon, at a recent concert at Shuler's Book Store. He's visiting from Scotland and is half of a group known as "The Mighty Fine Pair." His local solo schedule, as well as his appearances with his partner are listed on their webpage, www.themightyfinepair.com . Of special interest is the only local area appearance of the duo on Friday, July 8th at the Aries London Grill in Kalamazoo.  Of course, you can find out more about all of the area Celtic Music Venues and Groups by visiting our HOME PAGE.

Special Hours Announced for Lynch's Lair...   The fourth of July has always been a favorite holiday for the Lynch Family! In order to properly celebrate Independence Day, Meagan has decided to close up shop on Saturday, July 2nd, and Monday, July 4th! Of course the store is never open on Sunday's, so there will be three days of celebration taking place around the Lynch Cement Pond! No fireworks are allowed, though, since Bill can not be trusted with matches anymore!  The Store will also be closed from Monday, July 25th, to Friday, July 29th so that Meagan can staff the Lynch's Lair booth at the Ionia Free Fair. This will be the second year that the store has had merchandize in the Exhibition/Marketplace building at the world's largest "free fair!" The only year Meagan ever missed the fair was the year she spent in Australia! Come Visit Lynch's Lair at The Fair!  The store will reopen on Saturday, July 30th for your convenience.

New Items Available...   If you haven't stopped by for a while, Lynch's Lair has gotten in some new products!  In the Heraldry Products Line, be sure and look at the new Laser Etched Wood Plaques and Glass Beer Mugs, as well as the Micro Fiber Jackets, all available with your Family Crest on them. Some of the new products also are available with your Scottish Family Clan Badge! Speaking of Scottish products, we also have in stock, Scottish Flags and Car Decals. As a special promotion, we have a limited supply of Free Cloth Tote Bags with any Inis purchase. There's plenty of Guinness Golf  Products still available. Balls, head covers and towels are always a great gift idea for the Guinness/Golf  Lover. Watch for new products with your Family Crest/Clan Badges coming soon. Many will have a quicker delivery time, as we may begin producing some of these items ourselves to better serve you!

And Finally, we'll leave you with Grandpa Michael Lynch's Favorite Irish Toast...  "May your coffin be made of 100 year old oak...   Which I will gladly plant tomorrow!!!"

Just In Case You've Missed Our Other Announcements... We'll Be CLOSED Next Week!
Lynch's Lair will be closed Monday through Friday, July 25th - July 29th, so Meagan can staff the 2nd Annual Booth at the Ionia Free Fair! We will be open next Saturday, July 30th. While we hate to inconvenience our loyal store customers, the Ionia Free Fair has been a huge part of the Lynch Family Summer Tradition. Meagan has attended every year since her birth...(Except her year in Australia!) Fairgoers were very receptive to the Celtic and Irish gifts last year, and many of our customers began their patronage with us then! The rest of you are encouraged to make the trek over to Ionia and visit Meagan if you can... For more information about the activities going on at The Ionia Free Fair, visit their website...  http://www.ioniafair.com/

A Favorite Band Appears Tomorrow... and two new bands to be added to our website...

A group we told you about in our last newsletter, Belfast Gin,  has finally got their website up and running. The talent in this new compilation makes this a truly promising force in the Celtic Music scene in West Michigan. Check them out at their crisp, new website;  http://www.belfastgin.com/  We can't wait to hear them, and of course will carry any CD's they put out at our store! Watch for a link from our site to theirs!

While "surfing" some of our links, we came across a reference to another great sounding group! Liam the Leprechaun immediately fell for the Jazzy/Celtic/Original sound of " MILLISH" when he listened to their previews at their website: http://www.millish.com/  We will be handling their CD at the store in the near future, but in the meantime, LET'S TRY AND GET THIS ANN ARBOR BASED GROUP UP TO WEST MICHIGAN TO PLAY SOMEWHERE!!! Listen to them on their site, then talk to someone at your favorite venue about getting them up here! Watch for a link from our site to theirs, soon! Liam's going to see them on Saturday Aug. 20th at the Lansing Radisson.  If anyone is interested in joining him, e-mail the 300lb Leprechaun at lynchslair@gmail.com !

We are now producing some of our own Heraldry Items!!!
We are in our infant stage of being able to now produce some of our own Family Crest Items. We currently have the ability to print and frame over 400 Irish and 400 Scottish Surnames, as well as most Scottish Clan Badge Artwork.  Some items that used to take up two weeks or more can now be delivered in a couple of days!
