Carl Gregg, 50, of Bay City
Victim of Crash at Broadway and 31st Street

One man was killed and five persons were injured earl this morning in traffic accident at Broadway and Thirty-first street, the only serious accident of the Thanksgiving holiday period in Bay City. It made the seventh traffic fatality in the city this year and the 28th in Bay county. The victim was Carl Gregg, 50, 1108 Taylor street, who died of a broken neck and crushed chest.

Gregg was a passenger in an auto driven by Frank Van Ooschop of Essexville R.F.D. No 2, which was involved in a collision at 12:35 o'clock this morning with a car driven by Miss Marilyn Shanks, 16, of St. Johns.

Faces Manslaughter Charge
Van Ooschop lies in Mercy Hospital today with apparently serious internal injuries while police prepared a manslaughter warrant for him on recommendation of Prosecutor Bernard S. Frasik.

He was treated for minor bruises and cuts at General hospital and released after the accident, but at the county jail some hours later developed pain and was taken to Mercy hospital. Attendants there reporting him in "fair" condition and he is believed to have a punctured bladder.

Gregg's daughter, Adele, 22, was given first aid at General hospital and released.

Miss Shanks was reported uninjured by police, but two passengers in her car were hurt. Mrs. Jessie Shanks, 44, her mother, was treated at Mercy hospital for a scalp wound and released, and Billy 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Doyle, 215 South Catherine street, was treated at Mercy for laceration of the head and released.

Making U-Turn
Police said the accident occurred when Van Ooschop attempted to make a U-turn on Broadway and was struck by the Shanks' machine.

They alleged that Van Ooschop was intoxicated when arrested. Witnesses said that he started to make a U-turn and halted, leading Miss Shanks to believe he was waiting for her car to pass. As the two cars neared, Van Ooschop's auto suddenly shot into the path of the other machine, it was said.

Gregg was born in Columbus O., and lived in Bay City almost 50 years.

Surviving are his widow, Flossie; four sons, Ivan, of Detroit, Donald, of Midland, and Douglas and Harry at home; four daughters, Adele, Zona, Norma, and Ruby, all at home; two brothers, Earl, of Bay City and Pearl of Ann Arbor; one sister, Mrs. F. W. Braman, of Bay City, and three grandchildren.
