born June 4, 1895, in Hloza, Austria-Hungary (later became Czechoslovakia, then Slovenia), the fifth of nine children daughter of: John Novotny (born ~1864 in Austria-Hungary; died in 1948) and Zuzanna M. (Kucharik) Novotny (born ~1867) immigrated into U.S. aboard the 'Kaiser Wilhelm II' from Bremen, Germany, through Ellis Island on April 27, 1909 married Paul Zbin on July 17, 1911, in Lakewood, Ohio returned to Hloza, Austria-Hungary, in 1911 or 1912 while expecting their first child permanently immigrated into U.S., with baby Paul, aboard the 'Kronprinz Wilhelm' from Bremen, Germany, through Ellis Island on May 27, 1913 naturalized as U.S. citizen on December 7, 1937 Paul and Mary had seven children: Paul, Anna, Josephine, Margaret, Emil, Mary, and Albert died February 7, 1951, from leukemia in Oceanside, California buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio

Mary Louise "Maria" Novotny is born on June 4, 1895, in Hloza, Austria-Hungary (later known as Czechoslovakia and other names). She is the fifth of nine children born, all in Austria-Hungary, to John Novotny (born in 1864) and Zuzanna (Kucharik) Novotny (born in 1867). John and Zuzanna's children are:

• Anton John "John" Novotny -- born July 25, 1889. He marries Karolina M. Hudimac around 1909 and immigrates into the United States in 1921. They have four children: Ann (born March 20, 1916), Emily (born May 22, 1918), Margaret (born May 3, 1920), and Emil (born June 23, 1926). Great-Uncle John dies October 28, 1971, in Vermilion, Ohio.
  
• Joseph A. Novotny -- born {date?}. He immigrates into the United States and marries Mary Lukas in 1918 in Ohio. They have one daughter, Anne. Great-Uncle Joe dies around May 24, 1953, in Cleveland.
  
• Pavol "Paul" Novotny -- born {date?}; dies {date?}. He marries {name?} in Czechoslovakia and they have two children: Pavol (born 1923) and Miro (born around 1934).
  
• Josephine Novotny -- born {date?}. Great-Aunt Josephine dies in Czechoslovakia at age 18 years.
  
• Mary Louise Novotny -- born June 4, 1895. She immigrates into the United States in 1909. Grandma Zbin dies February 7, 1951, in Oceanside, California.
  
• Anna Novotny -- born November 18, 1900. She may have died in June 1975.
  
• Suzanne Anna Novotny -- born November 9, 1902. She immigrates into the United States in 1921 and marries Steven Tomusko around 1922 at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Lakewood. They have three children: George (born August 6, 1923), John (born December 15, 1924), and Margaret (born July 27, 1926). Great-Aunt Susie dies May 28, 1998, in Vermilion.
  
• Andrew Novotny -- born {date?}; dies {date?}.
  
• Christina Novotny -- born {date?}. She marries {name?} and has two children: a son Pavol and a daughter {name?}. Great-Aunt Christina dies around 1978 in Czechoslovakia.

Four members of Mary's family move to the United States--John, Joseph, Mary, and Suzanne. Mary sails aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II from Bremen, Germany, and first enters the United States through Ellis Island on April 27, 1909, hoping to improve her life. She is 13 years old.

While living in Lakewood, Ohio, Mary meets Paul Zbin, and on July 17, 1911, they marry in Lakewood.

Zuzanna (Great-Grandma Novotny) dies after 1920. John (Great-Grandpa Novotny) dies in 1948.

Grandma Zbin dies February 7, 1951, from leukemia while visiting a friend in Oceanside, California. She is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
